Inleiding.
Op de overigens buiten de bescherming vallende Openbare Begraafplaats, gesitueerd aan de westelijke zijde van de Putseweg te Putte, staat een GRAFMONUMENT voor een anoniem kind bestaande uit een gietijzeren tombe, waarop een beeld van hetzelfde materiaal. Het monument dateert uit ca. 1910 en is gesigneerd "Cl. Jonckheere, Kiel. Antwerpen".
Omschrijving.
Het geheel in gietijzer uitgevoerde monument bestaat uit een in plattegrond langwerpige tombe in de vorm van een kist, aan de bovenzijde voorzien van een ingegoten langwerpig kruis. Aan de zijde van het hoofdeinde staat op een sokkelachtige geprofileerde onderbouw een beeld van een engelenfiguur met een rouwkrans in de handen. De krans is deels beschadigd.
Waardering.
Het grafmonument is van algemeen belang. Het heeft cultuurhistorische waarde als bijzondere uitdrukking van een sociale en geestelijke ontwikkeling, in het bijzonder de ontwikkeling van de grafcultuur, het is tevens van belang voor de typologische ontwikkeling van het gietijzeren grafmonument. Het heeft kunsthistorisch belang als voorbeeld van het werk van het atelier Jonckheere en is tevens van belang wegens het bijzondere materiaalgebruik. Het is gaaf bewaard gebleven en typologisch uiterst zeldzaam.

On the otherwise unprotected Public Cemetery, situated on the western side of the Putseweg in Putte, stands a SEPULCHRAL MONUMENT for an anonymous child consisting of a cast-iron tomb, on which stands an image of the same material. The monument dates from ca. 1910 and is signed "Cl. Jonckheere, Kiel. Antwerp".
Description.
The monument, executed entirely in cast iron, consists of a tomb oblong in plan in the form of a chest, provided on the top with a cast-in oblong cross. At the head end stands on a plinth-like profiled base a figure of an angel with a wreath of mourning in its hands. The wreath is partly damaged.
Valuation.
The sepulchral monument is of general importance. It has cultural-historical value as a particular expression of social and spiritual development, in particular the development of burial culture, and is also important for the typological development of the cast-iron sepulchral monument. It has art-historical importance as an example of the work of the Jonckheere workshop and is also important because of its particular use of material. It has remained intact and is typologically extremely rare.
