Inleiding
Het WOONHUIS van de voormalige boerderij aan de Seerp van Galemawei 11 ligt in de kern van het terpdorp Mantgum, ten westen van de kerk en de voormalige school, op een ruime kavel van trapezodale vorm. Aan de voorzijde wordt de kavel begrensd door een gietijzeren HEK. Het gebouw is rond 1880 gebouwd in eclectische stijl. De Galemawei vormt het westelijke deel van de doorgaande weg die van oudsher centraal door het terpdorp loopt. Aan deze weg zijn vanaf 1840 statige huizen voor rijke burgers en rentenierende boeren op ruime kavels gebouwd en, als uitzondering op dit type bouwwerk, ook een boerderij (waarvan overigens het schuurgedeelte is afgebroken, waardoor nu sprake is van een woonhuis). De overige boerderijen lagen voornamelijk ten oosten en zuidoosten van de dorpskern.
Het voorhuis van de boerderij heeft het aanzien van een statige rentenierswoning gekregen, waardoor het visueel, typologisch en stilistisch bij de overige bouwwerken past, die in dezelfde tijd zijn gebouwd, te weten Seerp van Galemawei nr. 13, 15, 2, 4, 6 en 8. Dit stuk van de Van Galemawei valt binnen het beschermd dorpsgezicht. Deze voormalige boerderij (waarvan thans nog het voorhuis resteert) en een aantal andere woningen aan de Van Galemawei vormen een eenheid qua type en bouwstijl. Hoewel de genoemde woningen zowel wat betreft exterieur als wat betreft interieur op onderdelen niet meer geheel gaaf zijn, zijn de voorgevels en een aantal zij- en achtergevels in grote mate nog origineel. Visueel en structureel zijn de woningen - samen met het straatprofiel, de bomen en de hekken - bepalend voor het aanzicht van Mantgum. Zij getuigen van de grote cultuurhistorische waarde van zowel dit deel van het beschermde gezicht van Mantgum als van het gehele dorp. Verdere verstoringen aan deze woningen zouden het aanzicht van de straat en daarmee van het beschermd gezicht ingrijpend aantasten. Dit gegeven, gepaard aan de grote cultuurhistorische waarde van de dorpsstructuur in samenhang met de historisch waardevolle bebouwing, rechtvaardigt de bescherming van rijkswege van zowel dit woonhuis (nr 11), als de rentenierswoningen nr. 13, 15, 4 en 8.
Omschrijving
De woongedeelte van de voormalige boerderij (waarvan de schuur is afgebroken) heeft een rechthoekige plattegrond, is opgetrokken uit bruine baksteen op een forse natuurstenen plint en wordt gedekt door een schilddak met twee schoorstenen met schoorsteenborden en zwart geglazuurde gegolfde friese pannen. Voorgevel en dak worden aan weerszijden van het middenrisaliet verbonden door een hoog hoofdgestel versierd door vier guirlandes. De voorgevel wordt door het middenrisaliet symmetrisch verdeeld en aan beide kanten door grof gecanneleerde hoekzuilen begrensd. Het middenrisaliet, geflankeerd door twee grof gecanneleerde zuilen, loopt door in een grote dakkapel (kajuit) onder zadeldak, waar de afgeronde afsluitingen van de zuilen de aanzet vormen voor een geprofileerde lijst. Vier natuurstenen treden, met gietijzeren leuning aan weerszijden, leiden naar de dubbele houten voordeur met sierroosters die zich in een ondiep portiek bevindt. Boven de voordeur een balkon met ijzeren balustrade en dubbele balkondeuren. Zowel de voordeur als de balkondeuren worden omsloten door een gepleisterde geprofileerde omlijsting met kuif. Aan weerszijden van het middenrisaliet bevinden zich twee lichtgebogen T-vensters met natuurstenen dorpels en gepleisterde omlijsting met kuif. De achtergevel is ingrijpend verbouwd.
Het INTERIEUR bevat in de voorkamers nog een klein aantal originele elementen, o.m.: de vensterbanken, de brede houten paneelomlijstingen van de vensters met originele blinden, twee marmeren schoorsteenmantels en paneeldeuren.
Waardering
Het woonhuis van de voormalige boerderij aan de Seerp van Galemawei 11 te Mantgum is van algemeen cultuurhistorisch en architectuurhistorisch belang:
- als bijzondere uitdrukking van een sociaal-culturele ontwikkeling;
- vanwege het evenwichtige en kwalitatief hoogwaardige oorspronkelijke ontwerp, dat vooral in de voorgevel nog zichtbaar aanwezig is;
- vanwege de ornamentiek;
- als essentieel onderdeel van een groter geheel binnen het beschermd dorpsgezicht, dat cultuurhistorisch, architectuurhistorisch en stedenbouwkundig van nationaal belang is;

Introduction
The DWELLING of the former farmhouse at Seerp van Galemawei 11 lies in the centre of the terp village Mantgum, to the west of the church and the former school, on a spacious plot of trapezoidal shape. At the front, the plot is bounded by a cast-iron FENCE. The building was constructed around 1880 in eclectic style. The Galemawei forms the western part of the through road that has historically run centrally through the terp village. From 1840 onwards, stately houses for wealthy citizens and rentier farmers were built on spacious plots along this road and, as an exception to this building type, also a farmhouse (of which, however, the barn section has been demolished, so that it is now a dwelling). The remaining farmhouses were located mainly to the east and south-east of the village centre.
The front house of the farmhouse has taken on the appearance of a stately rentier residence, so that it visually, typologically and stylistically fits with the other buildings constructed at the same time, namely Seerp van Galemawei nos. 13, 15, 2, 4, 6 and 8. This section of the Van Galemawei falls within the protected townscape. This former farmhouse (of which now only the front house remains) and a number of other dwellings on the Van Galemawei form a unity in terms of type and building style. Description
The dwelling section of the former farmhouse (of which the barn has been demolished) has a rectangular floor plan, is constructed of brown brick on a substantial natural stone plinth and is covered by a hipped roof with two chimneys with chimney boards and black glazed corrugated Frisian tiles. Front facade and roof are connected on either side of the central risalit by a high main cornice decorated with four garlands. The front facade is divided symmetrically by the central risalit and bounded on both sides by coarsely fluted corner pilasters. The central risalit, flanked by two coarsely fluted pilasters, continues into a large roof dormer (cabin) under a saddle roof, where the rounded finials of the pilasters form the basis for a moulded list. Four natural stone steps, with cast-iron railings on either side, lead to the double wooden front door with decorative grilles located in a shallow porch. Above the front door a balcony with iron balustrade and double balcony doors. Both the front door and the balcony doors are enclosed by a plastered moulded frame with hood moulding. On either side of the central risalit are two slightly curved T-windows with natural stone sills and plastered moulding with hood moulding. The rear facade has been substantially altered.
The INTERIOR contains a small number of original elements in the front rooms, including: the window sills, the broad wooden panel frames of the windows with original blinds, two marble chimney mantels and panel doors.
Valuation
The dwelling of the former farmhouse at Seerp van Galemawei 11 in Mantgum is of general cultural-historical and architectural-historical importance:
- as a distinctive expression of a socio-cultural development;
- on account of the balanced and qualitatively high-quality original design, which is still visibly present especially in the front facade;
- on account of the ornamentation;
- as an essential part of a larger whole within the protected townscape, which is of cultural-historical, architectural-historical and urban planning importance at national level;
- on account of the location within the protected townscape, connected with the development and expansion of the region and the village;
- for the appearance of the region and the entire village;
- on account of the historically-spatial relationship with the development of the structure of the village;
- on account of the architectural integrity of the front facade, in relation to the visual and structural integrity of the protected townscape.
