Inleiding:

Description
Introduction:
MANOR HOUSE from 1903, in Eclectic style, built for brewer Jos Bolsius. His brewery stood on the Molenstraat. Bolsius marketed his beer under the brand "Cambrinus". After Bolsius, the house was occupied by annuitant Raaijmakers. Later by mayor Van der Put. In 1936 the first Municipal Health Service of North Brabant was established in this house. Forty-eight orphaned children also lived in the house. The house stands with its front or east facade on the Heuvel. The other facades are free-standing on the plot. It has a complex ground plan form.
Description:
The block-shaped two-storey house has rich architecture. The truncated hipped roof has chapels and pyramid-like crowning decorated with natural stone slate tiles. The walls of red mechanical brick are laid in English bond, with pilasters on the corners set in grey profiled stone. The wall openings are bordered by a frame of moulded stones, featuring round, segmental and/or elliptical arches with springer and keystone, filled between with polychrome tilework in geometric patterns. The frieze also contains this polychrome tilework. In the side facade where there is a setback, an entrance portico with a brick barrel vault in yellow brick, supported by a hardstone column with a foliate capital. Above this a balcony with balustrade. Between the windows of both storeys are terracotta sculptured tiles with plant motifs.
The windows are two-part cross-shaped sash windows. In the portico a monumental front door with moulding and carved work. At the vault a wrought-iron polygonal lantern.
At the back of the house a wooden conservatory with glass roof. In the fanlights of the windows, doors and in the conservatory figurative coloured stained glass in Jugendstil, incorporating medallions of various water landscapes, including a pheasant and sunflowers. The house has a very well-preserved interior with various period rooms, including a room with built-in Art Deco wooden seating with mantelpiece and a room with a built-in dresser entirely of tilework (presumably from the former tile factory "de Porceleyne Fles" from Delft). The rooms have richly worked stucco ceilings and cornices with polychrome and gold painting. These ceilings were among others restored by the artist Cornelis Le Mair and the current occupant. Granito flooring with borders of Venetian glass mosaic. The doors and sliding doors of four panels with carved work. Fine carpentry in the stairwell, above which a ceiling with a painted sky of linen wallpaper with swallows and clouds. Many panes of the house are etched or sandblasted, including those in the back room towards the conservatory and on the first-floor balcony with depictions of flower vases, fruit bowls and the like. The panes were made in the well-known glass studio of J.J.B.J. Bouvy from Dordt. The restored panes are from J.R. du Montaine. The masonry of the conservatory is entirely tiled up to the ceiling. In the tilework five tile tableaux from the period of construction are incorporated. They are landscapes as well as portraits of well-known Geldrop people, among others of Mie Peels at the Aalsterhut.
In the garden from the time when mayor van der Put lived here is a natural stone well.
Valuation:
The manor house is of general interest. It has cultural-historical importance as a particular expression of socio-economic development, namely the establishment of representative dwellings in the existing village townscape; it is also important as an example of the typological development of the residential house. The object is of architectural-historical importance through its style and detailing, particularly the way in which Eclectic motifs and tile decorations are used to enhance representativeness. The house is important because of the architectural integrity of its exterior and interior, with the interior achieving high quality through the combination of various craft and semi-craft techniques. It is important because of its architectural-historical and typological rarity.
