Inleiding
De CALVARIEGROEP, staande op de begraafplaats behorende bij de rooms-katholieke St. Vitus te Blauwhuis (gewijd 1872), bevindt zich aan de noordzijde van de begraafplaats, centraal ten opzichte van de meest noordelijke vakken en is naar het oosten gericht. Blijkens het opschrift aan de achterzijde is de Calvarie in 1870 vervaardigd voor "Johanna Maria van.... We van Johannes Evers, d.d. An. Ds. DCCCLXX".
Omschrijving
De beeldengroep is in zandsteen uitgevoerd en staat op een rechthoekig basement van zandsteen en Naamse steen (?). De beelden staan op een soort kantelen: in het midden de gekruisigde Christus; aan weerszijden, tegen zuilen die de kruisarmen lijkt te ondersteunen, Johannes de Evangelist en Maria. De groep wordt gedekt door een afsluiting in de vorm van een aedicula. Op de voorzijde van het hoge basement staat in neo-gotische letters te lezen: "Ik ben de verrijzenis en het leven: die in Mij geloofd zal hebben - al is hij ook reeds gestorven: zal leven. Wees gegroet: o kruis onze eenige hoop waaraan het Heil der wereld heeft gehangen".
Waardering

The CALVARY GROUP, standing on the cemetery belonging to the Roman Catholic St. Vitus at Blauwhuis (consecrated 1872), is located on the north side of the cemetery, centrally positioned relative to the most northerly sections and faces east. According to the inscription on the back, the Calvary was made in 1870 for "Johanna Maria van.... We of Johannes Evers, d.d. An. Ds. DCCCLXX".
Description
The sculptural group is executed in sandstone and stands on a rectangular base of sandstone and Namur stone (?). The sculptures stand on a kind of battlement: in the middle the crucified Christ; on either side, against columns that appear to support the arms of the cross, Saint John the Evangelist and Mary. The group is covered by an enclosure in the form of an aedicula. On the front of the high base, in neo-Gothic letters, one can read: "I am the resurrection and the life: he that believeth in Me, though he were dead, yet shall he live. Hail, O cross, our only hope, on which hung the salvation of the world".
