Inleiding
SLUISWACHTERSHUISJE behorende bij het waterbouwkundige complex bestaande uit het gemaal Smeenge, met een schutsluis en verkeersbrug, sluiswachtershuisje, schotbalkenloods en dienstwoningen bij De Voorst en Vollenhove. Het in de jaren 1939-1941 in opdracht van Rijkswaterstaat (Dienst der Zuiderzeewerken afdeling Noordoostpolderwerken, later Rijksdienst IJsselmeerpolders) gebouwde huisje is ontworpen door ir. D. Roosenburg (Den Haag). Het staat links van de Voorstersluis en is opgetrokken in een aan het Functionalisme verwante bouwstijl.
Omschrijving
Vanuit een rechthoekige plattegrond, in baksteen boven beton opgetrokken huisje met rechtgesloten gevelopeningen. Aan de noordzijde en de oostzijde een verbreding van de betonnen onderbouw, die aan de oostzijde eindigt in een trapje. Het huisje staat onder een sterk uitkragend, met verbeterde Hollandse pannen gedekt zadeldak, waarvan de nokken iets verder uitkragen en een stompe punt vormen. Op de nok staat een gemetselde schoorsteen. De noordelijke kopgevel bevat drie staande vensters met stalen ramen en betonnen onderdorpels. De oostlijke langsgevel is tweedelig, met in het bredere rechter deel een stalen deur met raam en een rond venster met taats draaiend stalen raam binnen een uitgemetselde omlijsting. Terugliggend linker gedeelte, waarin de boven een trapje staande deur naar de bedieningsruimte. Links van de deur een om de hoeken lopende vensterpartij, die de gehele breedte van de kopgevel beslaat. Het boven een betonnen onderdorpel staande venster loopt door over een deel van de westelijke langsgevel, met in de betonnen onderbouw een groot drieruits venster. Het inwendige van het sluiswachtershuisje valt buiten de bescherming van rijkswege.

Het sluiswachtershuisje is van algemeen belang vanwege de cultuurhistorische en architectuurhistorische waarde.

LOCK KEEPER'S COTTAGE belonging to the hydraulic engineering complex consisting of the Smeenge pumping station, with a lock and traffic bridge, lock keeper's cottage, shutter-beam shed and service dwellings near De Voorst and Vollenhove. The cottage, built in the years 1939-1941 on commission of Rijkswaterstaat (Department of Zuiderzee Works, Noordoostpolder Works section, later State Service IJsselmeerpolders), was designed by engineer D. Roosenburg (The Hague). It stands to the left of the Voorstersluis and is constructed in a building style related to Functionalism.
Description
From a rectangular ground plan, the cottage is constructed of brick on concrete with flush gable openings. On the north side and east side a widening of the concrete base, which ends in a small flight of steps on the east side. The cottage stands under a strongly projecting gabled roof, covered with improved Dutch tiles, of which the ridge slightly projects further and forms a blunt point. A brick chimney stands on the ridge. The northern gable wall contains three vertical windows with steel frames and concrete sills. The eastern long wall is divided into two parts, with in the broader right part a steel door with window and a round window with a pivoting steel frame within an outlined casing. The left section set back, in which the door above a flight of steps to the operating space. To the left of the door a continuous window section running around the corner, spanning the entire width of the gable. The window standing above a concrete sill runs through over part of the western long wall, with a large three-pane window in the concrete base.
