Omschrijving
Inleiding

Description
Introduction
Large detached VILLA, located on the west side of the Mr. van Hasseltlaan, with a front garden enclosed by a wrought-iron FENCE. The villa was built in 1899 in the Neo-Renaissance style, presumably by the Apeldoorn architect C.M. Gardenier (1856-?) who also designed the adjacent property at no. 25. Gardenier had purchased a number of plots in the Parken and acted here as a property developer/architect. After 1905 he continued as a building speculator, but no longer designed the houses himself. In 1915 he moved with his family to Utrecht.
Description
The brick building, laid in Flemish bond, is erected on an almost rectangular ground plan and comprises two storeys under a hipped roof covered with red-glazed tuiles du Nord (originally flat Frisian tiles). The flat has a zinc deck roof. The building has a rendered plinth and on the front facade a strongly profiled drip moulding at the height of the window sills and a profiled string course at the height of the floor level. The other facades have a mortar joint at these points. The facade openings are relieved by a segmental arch with rendered voussoirs and keystones. The keystone has a diamond head. The spandrels are provided with decorative brickwork.
The asymmetrically arranged FRONT FACADE has on the left a projecting section, ending in a stepped gable with a capping stone. This section has rendered corner blocks. The steps have rendered and profiled cappings. The stepped gable terminates in a pinnacle with rendered components including a square column with a ball finial. The projecting pinnacle rests on a console. On either side of the pinnacle are ornamental clasps. The ground floor and first floor each have two single-light sash windows here. The fanlights of the first-floor windows have yellow cathedral glass. The gable top has a 2-light casement window with semicircular fanlight, flanked by two wall anchors. The recessed section has on the ground floor the main entrance with a panelled door with glass panes, set with white cathedral glass, behind ornamental ironwork. The first floor has a window as in the left section.
The LEFT SIDE FACADE has on the ground floor and first floor on the left a single-light sash window. On the right the facade has a wooden conservatory with richly carved posts. The conservatory has sliding doors with original fittings, single-light lower sashes and fanlights set with yellow cathedral glass. The conservatory is provided with a hipped roof covered with red-glazed tuiles du Nord with on the flat a balcony with carved balustrade. The balcony is accessible via a single-light door with fanlight set with yellow cathedral glass.
The REAR FACADE contains on the right a 2-light casement door with 2-light fanlight, on the left a single-storey extension under a catslide roof covered with red-glazed tuiles du Nord. The rear facade of this extension had until recently two round cast-iron windows with flower-shaped design. The left side facade of the extension has an altered door arrangement. The first floor has two single-light sash windows.
The RIGHT SIDE FACADE contains on the far right a projecting section, the front facade of which contains on the ground floor an altered window. The facade has on the left next to the projecting section on the ground floor a small window behind a grille and on the first floor a single-light sash window with on its left a small window. The right side facade of the extension is cemented.
The INTERIOR contains in the front room a stucco ceiling with rich central ornament and sliding doors to the conservatory with original fittings, further in the hall a marble floor, a staircase with turned balusters and a draught lobby with radiating glass.
Valuation
VILLA with fence from 1899 in Neo-Renaissance style.
- Of architectural-historical value as a well and faithfully preserved example of a villa in Neo-Renaissance style. The building stands out for its high aesthetic qualities, its use of materials and rich ornamentation. Characteristic is, amongst other things, the richly carved conservatory against the left side facade. There is an ensemble value with the two adjacent properties as part of the villa district de Parken, within which the building belongs to villa types common around 1890, which together with the older and later types and styles exemplify very well the development of villa construction.
- Of urban planning value for its location on the Mr. van Hasseltlaan. The Mr. van Hasseltlaan still possesses a collection of historical houses in fairly good condition, which together with the many private and public green elements form an attractive, valuable street scene.
- Of cultural-historical value as a recognizable element from a social development. The building was erected as housing for the new and wealthy urban elite, who preferably settled in substantial villas in generously laid-out romantically designed villa districts. De Parken is one of the largest and oldest villa districts of this type in our country and its development contributed to the fact that the appearance of the village and the social stratification of its population changed dramatically.
