Inleiding
Voormalig SCHOOLGEBOUW, in 1866 gebouwde Rijks Hogere Burgerschool naar ontwerp van architect C. Vermeys in opdracht van de Dienst Gemeentewerken in eclectische stijl met uitbreidingen in 1905 en 1910 aan de zuid- en achterzijde in een hiermee verwante stijl. Het pand heeft na een zorgvuldige verbouwing tegenwoordig een woonfunktie.
Omschrijving
Schoolgebouw op langwerpige, rechthoekige plattegrond van twee bouwlagen en gedrukte kap. De oorspronkelijke hoofdmassa bevat een uit 15 vensterassen bestaande voorgevel waarbij de hoeken zijn gemarkeerd door zwaar uitgevoerde veelhoekige gepleisterde kolommen die ook de middenrisaliet die het trappenhuis insluit, flankeren. Tegen de rechter zijgevel is later een platgedekte aanbouw geplaatst die twee vensterassen telt in het verlengde van de voorgevel. Against the right side facade a later flat-roofed extension has been placed with two window bays in line with the front facade. The two storeys are emphasized horizontally by a profiled string course and a storey closed off by a rounded arch frieze under a broad plastered cornice. Carefully executed brick and plaster facade with thin joints, hardstone plinth and terracotta consoles and plastered band. In the wings central corridors.
