Omschrijving
Eenvoudig GRAFMONUMENT (vak 5, grafnr 44) uit 1865, bestaande uit marmeren kruis met krans op rechte sokkel en rechte voet. Aan de voet van het kruis ingegraveerd "Mary" , in de sokkel de data gegraveerd en in de voet een bijbeltekst.
Waardering
Eenvoudig grafmonument van algemeen belang vanwege de kunsthistorische waarde als karakteristiek voorbeeld van grafkunst. Tevens vanwege de funerair-historische waarde als voorbeeld van karakteristieke 19e-eeuwse begrafenisgebruiken en als onderdeel van de begraafplaats 'Soestbergen'.
Cultuurhistorische omschrijving
Bij het overlijden van Mary Catharine Pauline Twiss (1859 - 1865) brachten de ouders een boekje uit getiteled "May. 13 Jan. 1859 - 30 Mey 1865 " . Voorin kwam het doodsportret en vervolgens Nederlandse, Engelse en Franse gedichten over het sterven van kinderen, evenals May's laatste woorden.
Een dergelijke uitgave past binnen het 19e-eeuwse denken rondom de dood met name rond het overlijden van kinderen.

Simple GRAVE MONUMENT (plot 5, grave no. 44) from 1865, consisting of a marble cross with wreath on straight base and straight foot. At the foot of the cross engraved "Mary", in the base the dates engraved and in the foot a Bible text.
Appraisal
Simple grave monument of general importance for its art-historical value as a characteristic example of funerary art. Also for its funerary-historical value as an example of characteristic 19th-century burial customs and as part of the cemetery 'Soestbergen'.
Cultural-historical description
Upon the death of Mary Catharine Pauline Twiss (1859 - 1865) the parents published a booklet entitled "May. 13 Jan. 1859 - 30 May 1865". At the front was the death portrait and subsequently Dutch, English and French poems about the death of children, as well as May's last words.
Such a publication fits within 19th-century thinking around death, in particular around the death of children.
