Koningsweg - 2e Algemene Begraafplaats- Ontvangstgebouw Complexonderdeel 2
Omschrijving Eenlaags ONTVANGSTGEBOUW naar ontwerp van W.G. Nieuwenhuis uit 1904 in Palladiaanse stijl, met centraal deel op ronde plattegrond met uitbouwen, bestemd als aula en aan weerszijden onder een schuine hoek twee rechthoekige wachtkamers, beide met een uitgebouwde ingang. Centraal gedeelte gedekt met koepel, zijdelen gedekt met gedrukt zadeldak. Geheel gepleisterde gevels, met aan de oostzijde de hoofdingang, centraal gesitueerd in het achthoekige deel, met aan weerszijden de vleugels met schuifvensters tussen pilasters gedekt door zinken roevendak. Ingang uitgevoerd met pilasters, hoofdgestel en tympaan. Langs het gehele gebouw lopen geprofileerde lijsten, zowel langs de plint als onder de daklijst, als ook langs de koepel. Boven de ingang op de daklijst een bekronend tympaan. Beide tympanen, zowel boven de deur als op de daklijst, bekroond met palmetten. Aan de westzijde twee kleine uitbouwen met toegang tot het centrale gedeelte, het geheel met een klassieke omlijsting en bekroond met een tympaan. Tussen beide uitbouwen een stenen plaat met opschrift. Aan deze zijde in de tamboer van de koepel drie halfronde vensters. De bekronende lantaarn met klassieke decoratie, onder meer leeuwekopjes. Alle deuren met dezelfde decoratie, onder meer palmetten op het tympaan en met een hardstenen stoep. Interieur van het centrale deel met vijf halfronde nissen, de nis tegenover de ingang heeft een podium.
Waardering
Ontvangstgebouw van algemeen belang vanwege de cultuurhistorische - en architectonische waarden als goed en gaaf voorbeeld van een in Palladiaanse stijl opgetrokken gebouw. Ensemblewaarde als onderdeel van de begraafplaats Kovelswade vanwege de funerair-historisch waarde. Description Single-storey RECEPTION BUILDING designed by W.G. Nieuwenhuis from 1904 in Palladian style, with central section on circular floor plan with ancillary buildings, intended as an assembly hall and on either side at an oblique angle two rectangular waiting rooms, both with an extended entrance. Central section covered with dome, side sections covered with hipped roof. Entirely plastered facades, with on the east side the main entrance, centrally situated in the octagonal section, with on either side the wings with sash windows between pilasters covered by zinc roof. Entrance executed with pilasters, entablature and tympanum. Along the entire building run profiled mouldings, both along the plinth as well as below the roof cornice, as well as along the dome. Above the entrance on the roof cornice a crowning tympanum. Both tympana, both above the door and on the roof cornice, crowned with palmettes. On the west side two small ancillary buildings with access to the central section, the whole with classical framing and crowned with a tympanum. Between both ancillary buildings a stone plate with inscription. On this side in the drum of the dome three semi-circular windows. The crowning lantern with classical decoration, among others lion heads. All doors with the same decoration, among others palmettes on the tympanum and with a hard stone step. Interior of the central section with five semi-circular niches, the niche opposite the entrance has a podium.
Valuation
Reception building of general importance on account of cultural-historical and architectural values as a well and intact preserved example of a building constructed in Palladian style. Ensemble value as part of the Kovelswade cemetery on account of funerary-historical value. Of cultural-historical value as a good example of a service building which because of its function reflects a development in the history of burial.
