Inleiding
De twee HAVENLICHTEN ('lage lichten') staan op de westelijke uiteinden van de zuidelijke en noordelijke dammen van de haven van Stavoren. Getuige het opschrift op het basement van de lamp, aan de binnenkant van de havenlichten, zijn ze door de Engelse firma Brothers en Co., House Engineers Constructors te Birmingham in 1884 vervaardigd.
Omschrijving
De havenlichten zijn, op de kleur na (de zuidelijke is groen-wit, de noordelijke rood-wit) identiek. Zij bestaan uit een basement (of etage) van zes open, gietijzeren panelen met kruisverbindingen op een natuurstenen band en een gietijzeren lantaarn, waarin de optiek is geplaatst. Op het kruispunt van de gietijzeren verbindingen is een decoratief, rozetvormig deel aangebracht. Een wenteltrap leidt naar een smalle opstand boven het basement met gietijzeren balustrade. Het lichthuis wordt gedekt door een koepeldakje met bolvormige bekroning; boven de, in een cirkel geplaatste, metalen wanden zitten zes enkelruitsvensters en hierboven een zeskantige geprofileerde lijst. In het lichthuis staat een ijzeren zuil met rond geprofileerd basement en een rond plateau, waarop de optiek is geplaatst. De optiek (tegenwoordig met elektrische lamp), is nog origineel.
Waardering
De havenlichten uit 1884, behorende bij de "oude" haven van Stavoren, zijn van algemeen cultuurhistorisch en architectuurhistorisch belang:
- als bijzondere uitdrukking van een typologische en technische ontwikkeling;
- vanwege de esthetische kwaliteit van het ontwerp;
- vanwege het bijzondere materiaalgebruik;
- als essentieel onderdeel van een groter geheel dat cultuurhistorisch van nationaal belang is;

Introduction
The two HARBOUR LIGHTS ('low lights') stand on the western ends of the southern and northern dams of the harbour of Stavoren. According to the inscription on the basement of the lamp, on the inside of the harbour lights, they were manufactured by the English firm Brothers and Co., House Engineers Constructors in Birmingham in 1884.
Description
The harbour lights are, apart from the colour (the southern one is green-white, the northern one red-white), identical. They consist of a basement (or storey) of six open, cast-iron panels with cross-connections on a natural stone band and a cast-iron lantern, in which the optics are placed. At the intersection of the cast-iron connections a decorative, rosette-shaped component is fitted. A spiral staircase leads to a narrow upstand above the basement with cast-iron balustrade. The light-house is covered by a cupola roof with spherical crown; above the, arranged in a circle, metal walls sit six single-pane windows and above this an octagonal profiled moulding. In the light-house stands an iron column with round profiled basement and a round platform, on which the optics are placed. The optics (nowadays with electric lamp), are still original.
Valuation
The harbour lights from 1884, belonging to the "old" harbour of Stavoren, are of general cultural-historical and architectural-historical importance:
- as a distinctive expression of a typological and technical development;
