Inleiding
Dubbele VILLA in sobere eclectische trant naar ontwerp van P. Jung uit 1869. Het pand is stedenbouwkundig prominent gesitueerd en ligt overhoeks ten opzichte van de zuidoostelijke binnenhoek van het Kennemerplein. De rondomgaande tuin is onlangs heringericht, de achterzijde is thans parkeerplaats.
De villa behoort tot de bouwstroom die in hoofdzaak tussen 1864 en 1870 resulteerde in de realisering van elf villa's op de bolwerken. De bolwerken waren kort na 1821 naar ontwerp van J.D. Zocher jr. tot geaccidenteerd wandelpark in Engelse landschapsstijl getransformeerd. De villa werd onlangs aan de achterzijde voorzien van een verdiepingloze uitbouw die buiten de bescherming valt. Het dubbele pand heeft thans (1993) een kantoorfunctie.
Omschrijving
De dubbele villa staat op rechthoekig grondplan en heeft twee bouwlagen onder schilddak met zwarte Hollandse pan. Het door omgaand fries met kroonlijst afgesloten pand heeft een symmetrische opzet met een gevelbreedte van acht vensterassen en een diepte van drie vensterassen. In de voorgevel (zuidwest) worden de buitenste twee vensterassen op de parterre ingenomen door erkers. In de derde en zesde vensteras zijn voordeuren en getoogde dakkapellen geplaatst welke laatste zich direct boven de kroonlijst bevinden. Erkers en voordeuren dateren mogelijk van enige decennia na de bouw doch van vóór 1910.
Het pand is opgetrokken in witgepleisterde baksteen boven grijze plint. De gevels worden horizontaal geleed door cordonlijsten die de onderdorpels van de vensters op de beide bouwlagen met elkaar verbinden. De geprofileerde vensteromlijstingen benadrukken de afronding van de twee bovenhoeken en bevatten een centrale decoratie boven de vensters. De vensters zijn alle van hout en bevatten draai- en schuiframen, op de verdieping steeds met T-profiel. Boven de erkers doorbreken vier dubbele openslaande deuren de cordonlijst op vier punten. In een aantal vensterassen van zijgevels en achtergevel bevinden zich spaarvelden. De beide zijgevels hebben dubbele terrasdeuren die respectievelijk in 1910 en 1912 ter plaatse van een venster zijn aangebracht. De vergrote muuropeningen werden weer voorzien van afgronde bovenhoeken. In 1912 werden ook twee vensters in de achtergevel van nummer 13 tot één venster samengevoegd.
Waardering
De uit 1869 daterende Eclectische dubbelvilla is van algemeen belang vanwege de cultuurhistorische en architectuurhistorische waarde alsook vanwege de ensemblewaarde als onderdeel van de 19de-eeuwse villa-bebouwing in relatie tot de landschappelijke aanleg van de Bolwerken.

The double building currently (1993) has an office function.
Description
The double villa stands on a rectangular ground plan and has two storeys under hipped roof with black Dutch tiles. The building, closed off by surrounding frieze with cornice, has a symmetrical layout with a facade width of eight window bays and a depth of three window bays. In the front facade (southwest) the outermost two window bays at ground level are taken up by bay windows. In the third and sixth window bays are front doors and arched roof gables placed which latter are situated directly above the cornice. Bay windows and front doors possibly date from some decades after construction but before 1910.
The building is built in whitewashed brick above grey plinth. The facades are articulated horizontally by cordonlijsten which connect the sills of the windows on both storeys. The profiled window frames emphasise the rounding of the two upper corners and contain a central decoration above the windows. The windows are all wooden and contain casements and sash windows, on the first storey always with T-profile. Above the bay windows four double opening doors break through the cordonlijst at four points. In a number of window bays of the side facades and rear facade there are spare fields. Both side facades have double terrace doors which were installed respectively in 1910 and 1912 in place of a window. The enlarged wall openings were again provided with rounded upper corners. In 1912 two windows in the rear facade of number 13 were also combined into one window.
Valuation
The Eclectic double villa dating from 1869 is of general importance on account of the cultural-historical and architectural-historical value as well as on account of the ensemble value as part of the 19th-century villa development in relation to the landscape design of the Bolwerken.
