Omschrijving
Het voormalige GYMNASTIEK-EN KLEEDRUIMTELOKAAL is gebouwd in 1867 en nadien diverse keren verbouwd, voor het laatst tussen 1984 en 1986. In 1918 werd de gymnastiekzaal verbouwd tot woning van de conciërge en de kleedruimte tot ketelhuis. De kleedruimte is thans electriciteitshuisje en opslagplaats, de vroegere gymnastiekzaal werd woonruimte voor de decaan.
Omschrijving
Het kleine gebouw bestaat uit een rechthoekige ruimte met een aangebouwd langer rechthoekig deel met eigen zadeldak waarop nieuwe leien. De gevels zijn opgetrokken uit handvorm baksteen.
Het linkergedeelte herbergde de gymnastiekzaal. De voorgevel bezit een gepleisterde plint en hoeklisenen. In het midden een paneeldeur met bovenlicht en aan weerszijden een vierruits raam.
Het zadeldak wordt in het midden doorbroken door een steekkap onder zadeldak met vierruits raam. De linker zijgevel bezit hoeklisenen in de topgevel eindigend in siermetselwerk. Het vierruits venster op de begane grond wordt geflankeerd door een gepleisterde steunbeer. Op zolder bevinden zich twee T-vensters De rechterzijgevel heeft eenzelfde baksteengeleding. De zolderetage komt met openslaande deuren uit op het bouwlid met plat dak, dat de onderlinge verbinding vormt. De voormalige kleedruimte heeft behalve de siergeleding in de zijgevels weinig oorspronkelijks meer. Ramen en deuren zijn vervangen door dichte stalen exemplaren. De achtergevels van beide bouwdelen worden aan het oog onttrokken door diverse aanbouwen en dichte groenvoorziening.
Waardering
Het voormalige gymnastieklokaal is van algemen belang. Het heeft cultuurhistorische waarden als getuigenis van de ontwikkeling van het openbaar onderwijs in het zuiden van Nederland en is tevens van belang als vroeg voorbeeld van de typologische ontwikkeling van de gymnastiekzalen. Het heeft architectuurhistorische waarde als voorbeeld van de eenvoudige schoolarchitectuur van na 1850 en heeft belang als voorbeeld van het werk van de voor het Rijk werkzame architect Vermeijs.

Description
The small building consists of a rectangular room with an adjoining longer rectangular section with its own gabled roof covered with new slate. The facades are constructed of handmade brick.
The left section housed the gymnasium. The front facade has a plastered plinth and corner mouldings. In the centre a panel door with fanlight and on either side a four-pane window.
The gabled roof is interrupted in the middle by a pentice roof under gabled roof with a four-pane window. The left side facade has corner mouldings in the roof gable ending in ornamental brickwork. The four-pane window on the ground floor is flanked by a plastered buttress. On the attic level there are two T-windows. The right side facade has similar brick articulation. The attic storey opens with folding doors onto the structural element with flat roof, which forms the connection between the two parts. The former changing room has, apart from the ornamental articulation in the side facades, little original material remaining. Windows and doors have been replaced with solid steel examples. The rear facades of both sections are hidden from view by various extensions and dense planting.

The former gymnasium is of general importance. It has cultural-historical value as evidence of the development of public education in South Netherlands and is also important as an early example of the typological development of gymnasiums. It has architectural-historical value as an example of simple school architecture from after 1850 and is important as an example of the work of architect Vermeijs who worked for the State.
