Inleiding
Voormalige WATERTOREN, gebouwd in 1884, in opdracht van P.F.van Vlissingen naar ontwerp van Th. Roijakkers. De toren staat midden op het terrein van Vlisco en is na restauratie rond 1980 in gebruik genomen als gebouw van de bedrijfsbrandweer.
Omschrijving
Het achthoekige gebouw is opgetrokken uit machinale baksteen en heeft een afgeplat dak met schilden waarop zwarte kruispannen.
De hoeken zijn geleed met lisenen en onder de gootlijst is een tandlijst gemetseld. Aan de bovenzijde, ter plaatse van het waterreservoir, is aan twee kanten een zware bakstenen versterking gemetseld. De twee bouwlagen daar onder zijn voorzien van rondboogramen. Op de begane grond zijn dit twintigruitsvensters met straalvormig bovenlicht, op de etage zijn het twaalfruitsvensters met eenzelfde bovenlicht. De oorspronkelijke ingang is doorbroken met een brede openslaande deur onder betonnen latei.
Waardering
De voormalige watertoren is van algemeen belang. Het gebouw heeft cultuurhistorische waarden als voorbeeld van de sociaal-economische ontwikkeling van Helmond als industriestad en als voorbeeld van de vroege typologische ontwikkeling van de bedrijfswatertoren. Het object heeft ensemblewaarden als onderdeel van een groter geheel dat cultuurhistorisch van belang is. Het gebouw is gaaf bewaard gebleven en uiterst zeldzaam.

Former WATER TOWER, built in 1884, commissioned by P.F. van Vlissingen according to design by Th. Roijakkers. The tower stands in the middle of the Vlisco terrain and after restoration around 1980 was taken into use as a building for the company fire brigade.
Description
The octagonal building is constructed of machine-made brick and has a flat roof with ridges on which black Spanish roof tiles. The corners are articulated with pilasters and below the gutter line a dentil course is laid. At the top, at the location of the water reservoir, a heavy brick reinforcement is laid on two sides. The two storeys below are provided with round-arch windows. On the ground floor these are twenty-paned windows with radiating fanlight, on the floor above these are twelve-paned windows with the same fanlight. The original entrance is opened with a broad casement door under a concrete lintel.
Valuation
The former water tower is of general importance. The building has cultural-historical values as an example of the socio-economic development of Helmond as an industrial city and as an example of the early typological development of the industrial water tower. The object has ensemble values as part of a larger whole that is of cultural-historical importance. The building has been well preserved and is extremely rare.
