Inleiding
Ketelhuis, onderdeel van het complex Westergasfabriek Het zogenaamde ketelhuis 9 stamt uit 1885 en diende voor de verwarming van de drie nabijgelegen gashouders en de bazenwoningen.
In de loop der tijd heeft het gebouw een aantal ingrijpende wijzigingen ondergaan. De schoorsteen is verwijderd en in de noordgevel is een groot raam geplaatst. De noordelijke travee is thans van de rest van de ruimte afgescheiden door een muur, waarbij aan weerszijden in de buitengevel een deur is geplaatst. In de ruimte is een plafond aangebracht. In de zuidelijke travee zijn dubbele deuren geplaatst, terwijl de toegang in de zuidgevel is verdwenen. Bij dit alles zijn de oorspronkelijke ramen dichtgemetseld dan wel vervangen door nieuwe exemplaren en hebben de dakkapellen plaats gemaakt voor twee grote legramen in de lange dakvlakken.
Omschrijving
Het rechthoekige gebouw heeft een schilddak met een eenvoudige houten kapconstructie en is oorspronkelijk aan de noordzijde verbonden met een schoorsteen. Het exterieur wordt gekenmerkt door een afgewogen compositie en detaillering met lisenen, spaarvelden met daarin hooggeplaatste getoogde vensters, natuurstenen banden en een doorlopend fries bestaande uit tandlijsten en met de gootklossen corresponderende natuurstenen blokken. Op het dak bevond zich een zestal driehoekige dakkapellen die thans zijn verdwenen.

Boiler house, component of the Westergasfabriek complex. The so-called boiler house 9 dates from 1885 and served for the heating of the three nearby gas holders and the boss houses.
Over time the building has undergone a number of far-reaching modifications. The chimney has been removed and a large window has been placed in the north facade. The northern bay is now separated from the rest of the space by a wall, with a door being placed in the outer facade on either side. A ceiling has been installed in the space. Double doors have been placed in the southern bay, while the entrance in the south facade has disappeared. With all this the original windows have been bricked up or replaced by new ones and the roof dormers have been replaced by two large roof lights in the long roof surfaces.
Description
The rectangular building has a hipped roof with a simple wooden roof truss structure and was originally connected on the north side with a chimney. The exterior is characterised by a balanced composition and detailing with lisenes, spandrels with arched windows set high within them, natural stone bands and a continuous frieze consisting of dentil mouldings and natural stone blocks corresponding to the gutter blocks. On the roof there were six triangular roof dormers which have now disappeared.
