Inleiding
Op het terrein van de dakpannenfabriek KDN staat temidden van de verschillende bedrijfshallen een hoge gemetselde schoorsteen. Deze fabrieksschoorsteen is gebouwd in 1928 naar ontwerp van het architectenbureau v/h I. van Hasselt en De Koning uit Nijmegen. De schoorsteen is het laatste restant van het oude fabriekscomplex, dat in 1953 door brand is verwoest. Van na de brand dateert het kantoorgebouw in Delftse Schooltrant uit 1953 en verschillende bedrijfshallen, karakteristiek voor de bouw in de jaren zestig en zeventig. De baksteen- en dakpannenfabriek is in de negentiende eeuw opgericht door de firma J. Brunt. Omstreeks 1928 kreeg de fabriek de naam Wodast, dat wil zeggen Woerdensche dakpannen en steenfabrieken v.h. firma J. Brunt en Co te Woerden. Het opschrift op de fabrieksschoorsteen, te weten een hoofdletter B met daarbinnen & Co en een hoofdletter W is een verwijzing naar de eigenaar Brunt en Co uit Woerden.

De ongeveer 60 meter hoge FABRIEKSSCHOORSTEEN is opgebouwd uit baksteen in staandverband, versterkt met zo'n 45 ijzeren duigen. Iets onder het midden is in het metselwerk een grote B in witte steen aangebracht met daarbinnen - & Co- en -W-.
Waardering
De schoorsteen uit 1928 op het terrein van de dakpannenfabriek KDN is van architectuurhistorische waarde als goed voorbeeld van een fabrieksschoorsteen, alsmede is het van belangrijke cultuurhistorische waarde als onderdeel van een fabriekscomplex in het algemeen en binnen de baksteen- en dakpanindustrie in Woerden in het bijzonder.
De schoorsteen is van belangrijke ensemblewaarde in samenhang met de omringende kantoor- en fabrieksgebouwen.

On the site of the roof tile factory KDN stands in the midst of the various industrial halls a tall brick chimney.
