Vestingwerken. Van de in 1702-1703 naar ontwerp van Menno van Coehoorn aangelegde buitengracht met bastions is het grootste gedeelte van de gracht bewaard gebleven, alsmede twee bastions aan de noordzijde van de stad. De overige bastions zijn nog in omtrek te onderscheiden. Van de binnenste omwalling is een bolwerk bewaard, waarop de korenmolen "De Windhond" staat aan de zuidwestzijde der oude stad.

Description
Fortifications. Of the outer moat with bastions laid out in 1702-1703 after designs by Menno van Coehoorn, the largest part of the moat has been preserved, as well as two bastions on the north side of the city. The remaining bastions can still be distinguished in outline. Of the inner fortification, a rampart has been preserved, on which the grain mill "De Windhond" stands on the southwest side of the old city.
