Inleiding:
DUBBELE DIENSTWONING (type I) voor lager personeel in de stijlvormen van het Functionalisme uit 1933, gebouwd door de Tsjech Thomas Bata bij zijn schoenfabriek in Batadorp.
Het ontwerp is vermoedelijk van architect Antonín Vítek, die verbonden was aan de moederfabriek te Zlín (Tsjechoslowakije). Van dit bouwtype I zijn vijf blokken gebouwd, het zijn:
Europaplein 10-11, 12-13, 14-15, 16-17, 18-19

Het dubbele woonhuis met twee bouwlagen, is kubusvormig van opzet. Slechts de schoorsteen en een kleine betonnen luifel boven voor- en achterdeur doorbreken de kubusvorm. Achter de huizen een gecombineerde berging onder platdak. De voordeur ligt in de zijgevel. De gezamenlijke voorgevels liggen op het noordoosten.
De huizen met de berging zijn opgetrokken uit machinale baksteen gemetseld in halfsteensverband. De muuropeningen en dakrand zijn voorzien van een rollaag.
De indeling van de huizen, die het spiegelbeeld zijn van elkaar, is alsvolgt: Op de begane grond een woonkamer van 16 m2; keuken van 6,57 m2;badkamer tevens w.c.; bergplaats; hal met kelderkast onder trap. De trapnaar de verdieping is bereikbaar via de woonkamer. De verdieping heeft drie slaapkamers, waarvan één met een vaste kast boven de trap. De woonkamervloer, verdiepingsvloer en het platte dak hebben een houten balklaag. De rest van de vloeren is van beton voorzien van een deklaag van cement-estrik of terrazzowerk.
Waardering
De dubbele dienstwoning is van algemeen belang, tevens architectuur- encultuurhistorisch waardevol.
De woningen zijn karakteristieke en zeldzame voorbeelden van hetFunctionalisme van de jaren '20 en '30 van de 20e eeuw en de invloed van de Praagse Academie voor Creatieve kunst.
