SCHOENFABRIEK. Nederlandse Schoen & Lederfabriek Bata inde stijlvormen van het Functionalisme gebouwd in 1934 naar ontwerp van architecten van de moederfabriek in Zlín en uitgevoerd door het eigen bouwbureau.
Omschrijving
De schoenfabriek uit 1934 is een drielaags onderkelderd bedrijfsgebouw onder plat dak met iets overstekende houten gootlijst. Vierkante lifttoren.
Skeletbouw van gewapend beton, bepleisterd en gewit. IJzeren ramen met gewijzigde aluminium roedenverdeling en latere horizontale buitenzonweringen. Aan de zijkant een ijzeren brandtrap met bordessen.
Aan de achterzijde enkele latere aanbouwen. In verband met uitbreidingsmogelijkheden is de fundering geschikt voor vijf bouwlagen.
Waardering
Het fabieksgebouw is van algemeen belang. Het heeft cultuurhistorische waarde als voorbeeld van een sociaal-economische ontwikkeling, namelijk de industrialisatie en de internationalisering van Noord-Brabant in het Interbellum. Het is tevens van belang voor de typologische ontwikkeling van de hoogbouw voor de schoen- en lederindustrie, onder invloed van de uitgangspunten van het Functionalisme. het heeft architectuurhistorisch belang als karakteristiek en zeldzaam voorbeeld van het Functionalisme en als voorbeeld van fabrieksbouw met een sterk internationaal karakter.
