Inleiding
KANTOOR van de Nederlandse Schoen & Lederfabriek Bata in de vormen van het Functionalisme gebouwd in 1938 naar ontwerp van architecten van de moederfabriek in Zlín en uitgevoerd door het eigen bouwbureau.
Omschrijving
Het kantoor uit 1934 is een drielaags onderkelderd bedrijfsgebouw onder plat dak met iets uitstekende houten gootlijst. Vierkante lifttoren. Skeletbouw van gewapend beton, gepleisterd en gewit. IJzeren ramen met grotendeels gewijzigde aluminium roedenverdeling. Latere horizontale buitenzonweringen. Aan de voorzijde een latere uitbouw uit 1969 met luifel. Aan de zijkant een ijzeren brandtrap met bordessen. Aan de achterzijde een latere uitbouw. Herdenkingsplaquette 1940-1945 met bijbehorende verlichtingselementen,aangeboden door het personeel. Ook hier is rekening gehouden met uitbreidingsmogelijkheden. De fundering is geschikt voor vijf bouwlagen.
Waardering
Het kantoor is van algemeen belang. Het heeft cultuurhistorische waarde als voorbeeld van een sociaal-economische ontwikkeling, namelijk de industrialisatie en de internationalisering van Noord-Brabant in het interbellum. Het is tevens van belang voor de typologische ontwikkeling van de hoogbouw voor de schoen- en lederindustrie, onder invloed van de uitgangspunten van het Functionalisme. Het heeft architectuurhistorisch belang als karakteristie en zeldzaam voorbeeld van het Functionalisme en als voorbeeld van fabrieksbouw met een sterk internationaal karakter. Het is onderdeel van een ensemble, namelijk de Companytown Batadorp, die voor Nederland als een zeer bijzondere stedenbouwkundige ontwikkeling aangemerkt dient te worden.

The office from 1934 is a three-storey subterranean commercial building under flat roof with slightly overhanging wooden cornice. Square lift tower. Skeleton construction of reinforced concrete, plastered and whitewashed. Iron windows with largely modified aluminium glazing bars. Later horizontal external sunshades. On the front side a later extension from 1969 with canopy. On the side an iron fire escape with landings. On the rear side a later extension.
