Inleiding
DIENSTWONING (type VIII) voor hoger personeel in de stijlvormen van het Functionalisme uit 1941, gebouwd door de Tsjech Thomas Bata bij zijn schoenfabriek in Batadorp. Het ontwerp is van architect Rossmanith, die verbonden was aan de moederfabriek te Zlín (Tsjechoslowakije). Van dit bouwtype VIII is één woning gebouwd.
In heel Batadorp werden, in het tweede kwart van de 20ste eeuw, voor lager en hoger personeel van de fabriek 123 dienstwoningen gebouwd in negen bouwtypes.
Omschrijving
Vrijstaand tweelaags woonhuis op L-vormige plattegrond onder plat dak met overstek. Oorspronkelijk met betonnen overstek en fries. In de voorgevel van het huis een erker en portiek, beide met plat dak. Aan de achterzijde een veranda onder plat dak waarop een balkon met houten hekwerk. Het huis is opgetrokken uit machinale baksteen gemetseld in Vlaams verband.
De muuropeningen zijn voorzien van een rollaag. De indeling van de vensters is grotendeels ongewijzigd. De oorspronkelijke indeling van het huis is als volgt:Op de begane grond royale centrale hall met W.C., trap naar kelder enverdieping; zitkamer; woonkamer met veranda; eetkamer; keuken; bijkeuken; provisiekast; ingangsportiek en garage. De garage is in de jaren veertig verbouwd tot studeerkamer. Op de verdieping vier slaapkamers, waarvan één voor personeel (dienstmeisje); badkamer met tweede W.C., overloop met trap en dakterras boven garage.
Het dakterras is tegelijk met het veranderen van de garage verbouwd totvijfde slaapkamer. Onder de helft van het huis een kelder, waarin o.a. een kolenberging provisie-, was- en centrale verwarmingskelder zich bevindt.
De woonkamer, verdieping en dak van het huis hebben een "Bendor" betonnen balkenvloer waarop houten regelwerk met vloerdelen. De vloer van de woonkamer is bovendien voorzien van een parketvloer. In hal en badkamer een tegelvloer.
Tuin met oude beplanting waaronder twee opgaande beuken van ca.2 meteromtrek en verder: meidoorn, sering, boerenjasmijn, kers, coniferen enligusterhaag.
Waardering
De dienstwoning type VIII is van algemeen belang. Het gebouw heeft cultuurhistorische waarde als voorbeeld van een sociaal-economische ontwikkeling, namelijk de industrialisatie en internationalisering van Noord-Brabant in het Interbellum. Het is tevens van belang voor de typologische ontwikkeling van de arbeiderswoning. Het heeft architectuurhistorisch belang als karakteristiek en zeldzaam voorbeeld van het Functionalisme en als stijlvoorbeeld van de Praagse Academie voor Creatieve Kunst. Ze heeft ensemblewaarden als functioneel onderdeel van de Companytown Batadorp, die voor Nederland als een zeer bijzondere stedenbouwkundige ontwikkeling aangemerkt dient te worden.

SERVICE DWELLING (type VIII) for senior staff in the Functionalist style from 1941, built by the Czech Thomas Bata at his shoe factory in Batadorp. Description
Detached two-storey dwelling house on an L-shaped plan under a flat roof with overhang. Originally with concrete overhang and frieze. In the front facade of the house a bay window and porch, both with flat roof. At the rear a veranda under a flat roof onto which a balcony with wooden railings. The house is built of machine-made bricks laid in Flemish bond.
The wall openings are provided with a reveal. The window layout has largely been preserved unchanged. The original layout of the house is as follows: On the ground floor a spacious central hall with W.C., staircase to basement and upper floor; sitting room; living room with veranda; dining room; kitchen; scullery; larder; entrance porch and garage. The garage was converted in the nineteen-forties into a study. On the upper floor four bedrooms, one of which for staff (maid); bathroom with second W.C., landing with staircase and roof terrace above garage.
The roof terrace was converted at the same time as the garage was altered into a fifth bedroom. Under half of the house a basement, which contains among other things a coal storage, larder, laundry and central heating basement.
The living room, upper floor and roof of the house have a "Bendor" concrete beam floor with wooden framework and floor panels. The living room floor is moreover provided with a parquet floor. In hall and bathroom a tiled floor.
Garden with old planting including two substantial beech trees of approximately 2 metres circumference and further: hawthorn, lilac, mock orange, cherry, conifers and privet hedge.
Valuation
The service dwelling type VIII is of general importance. The building has cultural-historical value as an example of a socio-economic development, namely the industrialisation and internationalisation of North Brabant in the Interwar period. It is also of importance for the typological development of the workers' dwelling. It has architectural-historical significance as a characteristic and rare example of Functionalism and as a stylistic example of the Prague Academy for Creative Art. It has ensemble values as a functional component of the Company Town Batadorp, which for the Netherlands should be regarded as a very exceptional urban development.
