The register's description

Omschrijving onderdeel 1: HOOFDGEBOUW (Djoerang).

Waardering

Het HOOFDGEBOUW (Djoerang) is van algemeen belang:

- vanwege de ouderdom;

- als goed en gaaf voorbeeld van een buitenhuis in Empirestijl uit de tweede kwart van de 19de eeuw;

- vanwege de kenmerkende ligging binnen de tuin- en parkaanleg;

Description of component 1: MAIN BUILDING (Djoerang).

The plastered brick house consists of a basement upon which a tall central section of two storeys and lower single-storey wings built in Empire style in 1823 (see foundation stone) with on the west side a rectangular extension provided with a small tower from circa 1850. Originally the building was covered by hipped roofs with box gutters, which in the early twentieth century were replaced by flat roofs with a high attic. Only the extension is still roofed with a hipped roof covered in Old Dutch tiles. The symmetrically arranged seven-bay front facade has a central section with on the bel-etage a round-arched entrance door flanked by round-arched windows at a portico of five natural stone steps with lantern standards on either side. The round-arched openings are set within a pilaster articulation with Ionic capitals bearing a wooden moulding decorated with rosettes. On the upper storey are three six-pane windows above which the facade termination is formed by a cornice with an attic in which an oval window. On either side of this central section stand the wings with two long eight-pane windows and a stone attic. The rear facade has basement windows and the central section on the bel-etage contains two opening multi-pane doors at a recently built balcony which is of subordinate importance for the protection. The window arrangement corresponds further with the front facade, only the windows are provided with venetian blinds. The round small tower has a decorative iron roof moulding. In the INTERIOR are noteworthy amongst others the plainly stuccoed ceilings (rosettes) dating from the building period.

Valuation

The MAIN BUILDING (Djoerang) is of general importance:

- on account of its age;

- as a good and intact example of a country house in Empire style from the second quarter of the 19th century;

- on account of its characteristic location within the garden and park design;

- on account of the functional-spatial relationship with the other components of the country estate.
