Er is een sterke relatie tussen huis Schouwenburg en de landschappelijke aanleg, die is geïnspireerd door de Engelse landschapsstijl en omstreeks 1850 tot stand moet zijn gekomen. Aan de zuid- en noordzijde zijn lange zichtlijnen gecreëerd op het huis. Aan de zuidzijde is een open weide omzoomd door bomen. Doordat aan beide zijden van het huis boomgroepen zijn geplaatst, vindt een vernauwing van de open ruimte naar het huis toe plaats. Hetzelfde effect ontstaat aan de noordzijde waar de toegangweg (geplaveid met klinkers in waaierverband) via een ruime bocht het huis vanaf de zijkant nadert.
