Rooms-katholieke KERK, gewijd aan Johannes de Doper en gebouwd in 1878-1879 naar ontwerp van H. Bijvoets in Neo-gotische trant.
Omschrijving
St. Jan de Doper, 1878-1879, H. Bijvoets. Neo-gotische kruisbasiliek met toren, bekroond door frontalen en een naaldspits. De kerk heeft bunderlpijlers en stenen kruisribgewelven. Verwantschap met het werk van Tepe, o.a. in de gedrukte lichtbeuk met de kleine bovenvensters, die invloed van de late Nederrijnse gotiek verraadt. Neo-gotische aankleding grotendeels nog intact. Orgel met Hoofdwerk, Zwelwerk en vrij Pedaal, in 1890 gemaakt door de Gebr. Franssen te Roermond.
Waardering
De uit 1878 daterende kerk met bijbehorende interieur-onderdelen is van algemeen belang wegens cultuur- en architectuurhistorische waarde als hoofdonderdeel van het St. Jan de Doper-complex en als gaaf bewaard voorbeeld van een Neo-gotische kruiskerk van katholieke signatuur. St. Jan de Doper, 1878-1879, H. Bijvoets. Neo-Gothic cruciform basilica with tower, crowned by frontals and a needle spire. The church has bundle piers and stone cross-ribbed vaults. Affinity with the work of Tepe, among others in the compressed light nave with the small upper windows, which reveals the influence of late Lower Rhine Gothic. Neo-Gothic decoration largely still intact. Organ with Great, Swell and free Pedal, made in 1890 by the brothers Franssen in Roermond.
