Inleiding
ERFSCHEIDING MET TWEE LANTAARNS, behorend bij de basiliek van St. Jan de Doper, de pastorie en het voormalige klooster aan de Brink. De erfscheiding werd opgetrokken in 1924-1925, in een expressionistische bouwtrant vergelijkbaar met die van de kerk en pastorie. De erfscheiding bestaat uit drie lage bakstenen muren: één langs de pastorie (Brink 33), één langs het voorplein van de kerk (Brink 31) en één langs het voormalige klooster en de voormalige meisjesschool (Brink 29 en 27). Op de hoekpartijen van de muur langs het voorplein van de kerk zijn twee lantaarns geplaatst.
Omschrijving
De erfscheiding bestaat uit drie bakstenen muren ter hoogte van circa 90 cm. De muren van de erfscheiding zijn opgetrokken in gele baksteen in kettingverband, afgewerkt met een diepliggende platte voeg. De muren worden afgesloten door een ezelsrug, op de afgeronde hoeken door een platte rug.
De kerk is bereikbaar via een oprit aan weerszijden van het voorplein. Deze opritten zijn afsluitbaar door middel van een laag smeedijzeren hek. Een derde smeedijzeren hek is aangebracht bij de voortuin van pastorie: een klein tuinhek.
De erfscheiding langs het voorplein van de kerk heeft accenten op de afgeronde hoeken. Aan de kerkzijde is aan beide uiteinden van de erfscheiding een vierkante pijler geplaatst met daarop een koperen lantaarn met aan alle zijden gele glas-in-loodruitjes. De lantaarns worden afgesloten door een koperen tentdakje met kruis erop. Tussen de lantaarns en de afgeronde hoeken bevindt zich een bloembak in de erfscheiding.
Waardering
De erfscheiding met twee lantaarns is van algemeen belang uit architectuurhistorisch oogpunt als gaaf bewaard voorbeeld van een uit het Interbellum daterende erfscheiding met twee lantaarns, opgetrokken in expressionistische bouwtrant. Daarnaast heeft de erfscheiding ensemblewaarde, als visuele schakel tussen de pastorie (Brink 33), de St. Jansbasiliek (Brink 31), het voormalige klooster (Brink 29) en de voormalige meisjesschool (Brink 27) aan de oostzijde van de Brink.
