Omschrijving
Inleiding
- de typologie van het complex vanwege de laagbouw met sheddaken, een typerend voorbeeld van industriebouw uit de jaren '30, geëigend voor de textielindustrie en voorzien van een flexibele, vrij indeelbare plattegrond benodigd voor onder andere de toenmalige zware machines, de wisselende opstellingen daarvan door de tijd en de interne logistiek; het productieproces vereiste ook een goede lichtinval, gerealiseerd via de sheddaken; de interne transportfunctie is verder present door middel van de inwendige fabrieksstraat die het gehele complex ontsluit en die voor Nederland zeer zeldzaam is;
- de toepassing van geprefabriceerde onderdelen (lijst, constructie) en de constructiewijze (gietijzeren en geklonken onderdelen);
- de voor Nederland zeldzame uitvoering van de gevels in Art Deco-trant met details in baksteen, stucwerk en beton;
- de functionele en visuele samenhang met ketelhuis en schoorsteen;

Description
Introduction
Production halls, built in 1930 and extended in 1941, generally on a rectangular basis. Along the south side runs the factory street.
Description
Single-storey building, originally rectangular, later provided with extensions (1941), on the south side provided with an access passage (factory street) over the entire length (also extended in 1941). The facades are built in brick with, partially prefabricated, concrete elements. Concrete is used for structural components (columns), but also for more decorative elements. Stucco is also applied. Concrete, stucco and masonry are finely detailed in Art Deco style. The roof consists of saw-tooth roofs with glass in the northern panels. Over the factory street runs a gabled roof.
Facades
The facades are articulated by means of large windows, arranged in pairs or groups of four. The facades are terminated by means of a bold cornice. To illustrate the representative character of the richly detailed facades, at the side of the main entrance (Fatimastraat) the cornice-topped facade masks the saw-tooth roofs (almost) entirely, which is not the case at the other facade, at the boiler house. The saw-tooth form of the roof is clearly visible there and the detailing (cornices) follows the saw-tooth pattern. The main entrance is formed by double panelled doors under fanlight and canopy, accessible via a flight of steps. The factory street, which protrudes on both sides of the building, is provided among other things with loading platforms.
Interior
The interior was designed as freely subdividable and is constructed according to a grid pattern. The roof truss structure, consisting of riveted lattice trusses and saw-tooth roofs, is carried by cast-iron columns with openwork 'capital'. The access passage is partly underground; the cellars are accessed via a ramp. The passage has a gabled roof consisting of riveted lattice trusses, set on pilasters. Furthermore, among other things the metal sliding doors are of importance.
Valuation
The production halls and the factory street (access passage) of the AaBe factory, built in 1930 and 1941 according to the design of G. Forest, are of general importance because of:
- the typology of the complex because of the low-rise construction with saw-tooth roofs, a typical example of industrial building from the 1930s, suited for the textile industry and provided with a flexible, freely subdividable ground plan necessary for among other things the heavy machinery of that time, the changing arrangements of it over time and the internal logistics; the production process also required good light entry, realised via the saw-tooth roofs; the internal transport function is further present by means of the internal factory street which provides access to the entire complex and which is very rare for the Netherlands;
- the use of prefabricated components (cornice, structure) and the construction method (cast-iron and riveted components);
- the execution of the facades in Art Deco style with details in brick, stucco and concrete, rare for the Netherlands;
- the functional and visual coherence with boiler house and chimney;
- the integrity and rarity of such production halls in the Netherlands, whereby also the dominant role of Tilburg in the textile industry at national level is emphasised.
