Inleiding
Het SCHOOLGEBOUW, "De Stadsweide", is in 1913 gebouwd als zevenklassige openbare lagere school met inpandige congiërgewoning en gymnastiekzaal naar een ontwerp van de stadsarchitect A.H. Op ten Noort. Ook nu is er een openbare basisschool ondergebracht. De school is inwendig met behoud van enkele oorspronkelijke interieurelementen gemoderniseerd. De school staat met de voorgevel (O) aan de Prinsestraat, direct naast de synagoge. Een smeedijzeren spijlenhek tussen gemetselde hekpijlers met natuurstenen kussens vormt de erfscheiding tussen het plein voor de school en de straat. Het grote speelplein aan de achterzijde wordt aan de oost- en zuidzijde begrensd door de twee vleugels van de school. Omschrijving
Het schoolgebouw heeft een winkelhaakvormige plattegrond met een gedeelte van twee bouwlagen in de oksel tussen twee zijvleugels van één bouwlaag onder overstekende met rode pannen gedekte schild- en zadeldaken. De in rode baksteen opgetrokken gevels hebben een iets uitgemetseld plint onder een natuurstenen afdeklijstje, hoeklisenen en friezen onder de gootlijst. De hoofdingang bevindt zich in de voorgevel (O) aan de Prinsestraat in het gedeelte met verdieping. Een hardstenen stoep van drie treden leidt naar de dubbele paneeldeur met ovale negenruits vensters onder een gewelfde houten luifel op geprofileerd consoles. Het venster boven de luifel bestaat uit drie getoogde glas-in-loodramen. Op het tableau van gekleurde geglazuurde tegels rechts van de ingang staat de tekst: "Openbare Lagere School B2". De grote lokaalvensters in de voor- en de linker zijgevel (O en Z) zijn uitgevoerd met kruiskozijnen en roedenverdeling. In de oksel van de winkelhaak aan de achterzijde van het gedeelte met verdieping een halfrond uitgebouwd trappehuis met glas-in-lood traplichten onder een schilddakje. In de achtergevels van de zijvleugels worden de eenvoudige rechtgesloten vensters van de toiletgroepen afgewisseld met de samengestelde gangvensters onder segmentbogen. De hoog opgaande entreepartij in de noordgevel van de westvleugel heeft een schilddakje met piron op de nok. In de dakschilden van de lage zijvleugels dakkapellen met drie zesruitsvensters onder geknikte zadeldakjes. Inwendig is de oorspronkelijke indeling met onder meer de betegelde gangen, de hal met de rondbogen en het trappehuis met de originele trapleuningen en glas-in-lood traplichten bewaard gebleven. The SCHOOL BUILDING, "De Stadsweide", was built in 1913 as a seven-class public primary school with integrated caretaker's dwelling and gymnasium according to a design by city architect A.H. Description
The school building has an L-shaped ground plan with a section of two storeys in the corner between two single-storey side wings under overhanging gabled and saddle roofs covered with red tiles. The facades in red brickwork have a slightly projecting plinth under a natural stone coping string, corner pilasters and friezes under the eaves line. The main entrance is located in the front facade (E) on the Prinsestraat in the section with storey. A sandstone steps of three treads leads to the double panel door with oval nine-light windows under a vaulted wooden canopy on moulded corbels. The window above the canopy consists of three arched stained glass lights. On the plaque of coloured glazed tiles to the right of the entrance is the text: "Openbare Lagere School B2". The large classroom windows in the front and left side facade (E and S) are executed with cross windows and glazing bars. In the corner of the L-shape on the rear side of the section with storey a semi-circular projecting staircase with stained glass stair lights under a small hipped roof. In the rear facades of the side wings the simple rectangular windows of the toilet groups are alternated with the composite corridor windows under segmental arches. The tall entrance section in the north facade of the west wing has a small hipped roof with a finial on the ridge. In the roof slopes of the low side wings dormers with three six-light windows under bent saddle rooflets. Internally the original layout with among others the tiled corridors, the hall with the round arches and the staircase with the original stair railings and stained glass stair lights has been preserved.
