Inleiding
Vrijstaande voormalige ARBEIDERSWONING, behorend bij het weeshuiscomplex "Huize van Strijen". De in ambachtelijk-traditionele bouwtrant uigevoerde arbeiderswoning ligt circa 150 meter ten noorden van het weeshuis, ten oosten van de Grote Sloot. Het pand is ietwat teruggelegen ten opzichte van de weg en wordt daarvan gescheiden door een afwateringsslootje. De arbeiderswoning werd omstreeks 1910 gebouwd.
N.B. De aanbouw aan de achterzijde van de woning valt niet onder de bescherming.
Omschrijving
Op rechthoekig grondplan gebouwde arbeiderswoning, bestaande uit één bouwlaag onder een zadeldak, gedekt met zwarte Friese golfpannen. De noklijn loopt evenwijdig aan de Grote Sloot. Op de nok staat een vierkanten bakstenen schoorsteen.
Het pand is opgetrokken in bruine baksteen boven een uitgemetselde plint.
Op verschillende plaatsen in de kopgevels zijn sierankers zichtbaar. Tenzij anders vermeld, bevatten de vensterassen een rechthoekig houten schuifvenster met drieruits-bovenlicht en houten lekdorpel.
De voorgevel (W) heeft drie vensterassen. Ter hoogte van de onder-, bovendorpels en middenkalf van de vensters is een speklaag in rode baksteen aangebracht. De gevel wordt afgesloten door een houten bakgoot op houten consoles.
De rechterzijgevel (Z) bevat op de begane grond één vensteras. In de topgevel is een rechthoekig houten draaivenster aangebracht. De kopgevel wordt afgsloten door een dakoverstek met windveren.
De achtergevel (O) bevat één nog oorspronkelijk venster. De gevel wordt afgesloten door een houten bakgoot op consoles.
De linkerzijgevel (N) heeft een opbouw en indeling vergelijkbaar met de rechterzijgevel. De vensteras op de begane grond bevat echter een smal houten schuifvenster.
Waardering
De vroeg-20ste-eeuwse, eenvoudige arbeiderswoning is van algemeen belang uit cultuur- en architectuurhistorisch oogpunt als historisch-functioneel onderdeel van het weeshuiscomplex "Huize van Strijen".

Detached former WORKERS' DWELLING, belonging to the orphanage complex "Huize van Strijen". The workers' dwelling, executed in craftsman-traditional building style, is located approximately 150 metres to the north of the orphanage, to the east of the Grote Sloot. The building is set back somewhat from the road and is separated from it by a drainage ditch. The workers' dwelling was built around 1910.
N.B. The extension at the rear of the dwelling does not fall under the protection.
Description
Workers' dwelling built on a rectangular ground plan, consisting of one storey under a gabled roof, covered with black Frisian pantiles. The ridge line runs parallel to the Grote Sloot. On the ridge stands a square brick chimney.
The building is built in brown brick above a rendered plinth.
Ornamental wall anchors are visible in various places on the gable ends. Unless otherwise stated, the window bays contain a rectangular wooden sash window with three-light fanlight and wooden drip moulding.
The front facade (W) has three window bays. At the level of the top, bottom and middle beams of the windows a course of red brick has been inserted. The facade is finished with a wooden guttering on wooden consoles.
The right side facade (S) contains on the ground floor one window bay. In the gable end a rectangular wooden casement window has been installed. The gable end is finished with roof overhang with wind braces.
The rear facade (E) contains one still original window. The facade is finished with a wooden guttering on consoles.
The left side facade (N) has a structure and layout comparable to the right side facade. However, the window bay on the ground floor contains a narrow wooden sash window.
Valuation
The early 20th-century, simple workers' dwelling is of general significance from a cultural and architectural-historical point of view as a historically-functional component of the orphanage complex "Huize van Strijen".
