Inleiding
Woonhuis/werkplaats gebouwd in 1929 in de stijl van de Amsterdamse School en in opdracht van Zeilmakerij Wouda. Ontwerp van NV architecten en ingenieursbureau B. Schuitemaker uit Meppel.
Omschrijving
Woonhuis/werkplaats opgetrokken in een gesinterde baksteen met een verdieping onder een zeer steil opgaand en afgeplat schilddak belegd met tuile-du-nord pannen. Op drie hoeken krulvormige loodornamenten (nu alleen nog op de zuidhoek aanwezig). De noordhoek is geaccentueerd door een uitgemetselde bloembak, daarboven een houten stijl van het hoekraam waarboven een uitkragend en rond gemetselde hoektoren (koppenverband) waarin smalle vensters en naam Zeilmakerij Wouda. Noordelijke zijgevel met paneeldeur (trapeziumvormige panelen) met ruit, een dubbele deur met aan weerszijden gekoppelde vensters. In het dakvlak onder meer een deur met trijs en aan weerzijden een gekoppeld venster. De voorgevel heeft de oorspronkelijke opzet maar is in detaillering gewijzigd. De achtergevel heeft onder meer een deur met zijlichten en openslaande terrasdeuren.
Waardering
Woonhuis/werkplaats van cultuurhistorisch, architectuurhistorisch en stedebouwkundig belang vanwege de funnctionele ontwikkeling van Meppel als havenstad, vanwege de typologie, de vormgeving en materiaalgebruik alsmede vanwege de ligging nabij de sluis en het voormalige havengebied. Van belang als hoofdelement van het complex. Zeldzaam in vormgeving en ornamentiek.

Description
Dwelling/workshop constructed in sintered brick with one upper storey beneath a very steeply rising and truncated hipped roof tiled with tuile-du-nord tiles. On three corners curled lead ornaments (now only present on the south corner). The north corner is accentuated by a built-up flower box, above it a wooden mullion of the corner window above which a cantilevered and circularly built corner tower (stretcher bond) in which narrow windows and the name Zeilmakerij Wouda. Northern side gable with panel door (trapezoidal panels) with a window pane, a double door with coupled windows on either side. In the roof plane among other things a door with transom and on either side a coupled window. The front gable has the original layout but has been modified in detailing. The rear gable has among other things a door with sidelights and folding terrace doors.

Dwelling/workshop of cultural-historical, architectural-historical and urban planning importance due to the functional development of Meppel as a harbour town, due to the typology, the design and use of materials and also due to the location near the lock and the former harbour area.
