The register's description

Inleiding.

Cuypers in gave staat bewaard is gebleven.

Introduction.

Roman Catholic Church in Traditionalist style from 1926, dedicated to the Holy Family. Design by architect Ed. Cuypers with Dudok-like motifs. The contractor: Gerard Braam.

Church painter: Hubert Schafhausen.

The parish church belongs to the monastery of the Dominicans, which was founded in 1848 by steward and house chaplain Felix Walter of the family de la Boëssière-Thiennes at the castle Tongelaar under Gassel near Grave. With the establishment of this monastery arose the monastery hamlet Langenboom in the midst of what was then still uncultivated Princepeel.

The monastery was closed in 1964.

The church replaces the parish church built in 1869 by P.J.H. Cuypers, which was largely destroyed by a cyclone in 1925 together with the adjoining monastery.

Many houses and farms were also lost at that time. The monastery which borders the church to the south and also dates from 1869 was largely rebuilt in 1926. The monastery has a connection via a door in the monastery chapel to the church.

The monastery itself is not part of the national monument, but its chapel is.

Description.

The church has a high single-aisle nave on a rectangular ground plan of five bays under a gabled roof with a lower choir at the end and an entrance of one bay, both under gabled roofs. Adjacent to the east side of the church's choir is the monastery chapel under a gabled roof, which is two bays large, with three-sided termination. The nave has narrow low side aisles with passageways under lean-to roofs. The roofs are covered with red improved Dutch tiles. On top of the church's nave an octagonal roof turret with slate tiles, equipped with a bell and crowned by a wrought-iron cross. The structure both inside and outside the church consists of hand-formed brickwork laid in English bond. Inside, the church also has a green and brown glazed dado. The nave of the church has moulded barrel vaults with a plastered vault between them. The facades are subdivided by buttress-like pilasters. The wall openings are grouped in threes. Windows with stained glass with decorative border.

The entrance section in the west facade of the church is flanked by natural stone statues of Mary and Joseph by sculptor Van Itsert. Above the entrance is the text "Lux de Luce" inscribed.

At the top of the facade a clock with stylized dial.

At the back of the church a Mary chapel and baptismal chapel. Among various 19th-century statues, there is a statue of Mary from approximately 1500 in the church.

Valuation.

The church is of general importance because of its cultural-historical value as an example of the typological development of the Catholic 'people's church' in the Interwar period, shaped under the influence of the liturgical views of the founders, the order of the Dominican Fathers. The building has architectural-historical value as one of the few parish churches from the office of Ed. Cuypers that has been preserved in original condition. It is also of importance because of its special location as the centre of the nineteenth-century settlement in the Brabant Peel. It has been well preserved.
