Inleiding
De tuin van de historische buitenplaats Russendaal is ontwikkeld sedert ca. 1805, het jaar van de aankoop van de plaats door de jezuïeten. Waarschijnlijk is, afgaande op oude kaarten, de huidige aanleg pas tezamen met de bouw van het huis in 1864 tot stand gekomen. De gracht rond het huis stamt wellicht pas van circa 1900.
Omschrijving
PARK- EN TUINAANLEG.
De buitenplaats bestaat uit twee gedeelten:
Westelijk een globaal vierkant perceel in het noorden begrensd door de Campagnelaan, in het oosten door de Russendaalweg, in het zuiden en westen door akkers en weilanden;aan drie zijden (niet langs de Russendaalweg) een omlopende boslaan (brevierlaan), daarbinnen een licht slingerende gracht om een globaal vierkant perceel; midden op het perceel het huis met ervoor een druppelvormig gazon bereikbaar via een oprijlaan vanaf de Russendaalweg en omlopende oprijlaan, erachter een gazon in landschappelijke trant met enkele solitairen; in dit binnenpark verder heesterlaag, beukenberceau.
Oostelijk een vijfzijdig perceel ten noorden begrensd door de Campagnelaan, ten westen door de Russendaalweg, in het zuidoosten door weilanden; grotendeels omgeven door een pad met wal/greppel; het zuidelijk deel heeft een rastervormige structuur, hoofdzakelijk ingevuld met bos; het bovenste deel, tegenover het westelijke parkgedeelte met huis, wordt tot halverwege doorsneden door een zichtlaan, het verlengde van de oprijlaan naar het huis; deze laan eindigt bij een rond kom; in dit parkgedeelte zijn kleine slingerpaden aangelegd; voornamelijk bos. Binnen de structuur zijn een tennisbaan en een voetbalveld herkenbaar.
Waardering
Het park van de historische buitenplaats Russendaal is van algemeen belang vanwege:
- het typerende sobere karakter van een campagne van de jezuïeten, dat wil zeggen een aanleg die teruggaat op de ontginningsgeschiedenis ter plaatse met daarin toevoegingen zoals hoofdas gevormd door oprijlaan huis - vijver; slingerpaden voor solitaire meditatie; recreatiemogelijkheden (voetbal, tennis); het vrijwel geheel ontbreken van verwijzingen naar de religieuze functie vanwege de functie als plaats voor recreatie; het onderscheid tussen parkachtige aanleg rond het huis (gazon, vijver, met zorg aangelegde heesterlaag) en de meer utilitaire, wellicht op handenarbeid van de paters ingerichte aanplant in het oostelijke parkgedeelte;
- de schoonheid van het park en de relatie met huis en omringend landschap;

The garden of the historic country estate Russendaal has been developed since approximately 1805, the year of the purchase of the estate by the Jesuits. PARK AND GARDEN LAYOUT.
The country estate consists of two sections:
On the west a roughly square plot bounded on the north by the Campagnelaan, on the east by the Russendaalweg, on the south and west by fields and meadows; on three sides (not along the Russendaalweg) a surrounding wooded lane (breviary lane), within this a gently winding moat round a roughly square plot; in the middle of the plot the house with in front of it a drop-shaped lawn accessible via a drive from the Russendaalweg and circumferential drive, behind it a lawn in landscape fashion with some solitary trees; in this inner park further shrub layer, beech pergola.
On the east a five-sided plot bounded on the north by the Campagnelaan, on the west by the Russendaalweg, on the south-east by meadows; largely surrounded by a path with bank/ditch; the southern part has a grid-like structure, mainly filled with woodland; the upper part, opposite the western park section with house, is cut through to halfway by a sight avenue, the continuation of the drive to the house; this avenue ends at a round clearing; in this park section small winding paths are laid out; mainly woodland. Within the structure a tennis court and a football pitch are recognizable.
Valuation
The park of the historic country estate Russendaal is of general significance because of:
- the typical austere character of a Jesuit country retreat, that is to say a layout that goes back to the land reclamation history of the place with additions such as the main axis formed by drive house - pond; winding paths for solitary meditation; recreational facilities (football, tennis); the virtual absence of references to the religious function because of its function as a place for recreation; the distinction between park-like layout round the house (lawn, pond, carefully established shrub layer) and the more utilitarian, perhaps arranged by the labours of the Fathers, planting in the eastern park section;
