Inleiding
Vrijstaande villa gebouwd rond 1890 in een eclectische stijl in opdracht van de familie Stheeman. Het pand staat diagonaal ten opzichte van de kruising Zuideinde-Stationsweg. De (niet apart te beschermen) erfaanleg bevat onder meer enkele royale bomen en een giet- en smeedijzeren hekwerk. Aan de achterzijde heeft het pand een platte aanbouw die buiten de bescherming valt.

Villa met gepleisterde plint, bakstenen opbouw voorzien van gepleisterde lisenen, speklagen en waterlijsten en gedekt door een afgeknot schilddak belegd met kruispannen; zeer brede kroonlijst bestaande uit een fries, een geprofileerde gootlijst, frontons op de afgeschuinde hoeken en een borstwering bovenlangs alsmede een zinken dakkoepel in de as van de entree. De dakkoepel is voorzien van onder meer een zware guirlande, een rondvenster en sierstukken. Centraal en gericht naar het kruispunt een entreepartij met hardstenen stoep, bepleisterde rondboog, (vernieuwde) paneeldeur met rondboog bovenlicht. Op de begane grond getoogde vensters, op de verdieping rechtgesloten vensters allen met hardstenen onderdorpels en gepleisterde omlijsting. Op de afgeschuinde hoeken zijn balkons geplaatst op bewerkte consoles; giet- en smeedijzeren sierhekwerk binnen zware hoekkolommen. De zijgevels zijn op de begane grond deels aangepast in verband met de platte (niet te beschermen) aanbouw aan de achterzijde.

Villa van cultuurhistorisch, architectuurhistorisch en stedebouwkundig belang vanwege de belangrijke rol van de familie Stheeman voor de economische ontwikkeling van Meppel, vanwege de vormgeving en het materiaalgebruik alsmede vanwege de zeer bepalende ligging ten opzichte van het kruispunt Zuideinde-Stationsweg en vanwege de ligging in een waardevol stadsgezicht.

Detached villa built around 1890 in an eclectic style commissioned by the Stheeman family. The property stands diagonally with respect to the intersection of Zuideinde-Stationsweg. The (not separately protectable) grounds layout contains among other things several magnificent trees and a cast and wrought iron railing. On the rear side the property has a flat extension which falls outside the protection.
Description
Villa with rendered plinth, brick superstructure provided with rendered pilasters, rusticated bands and drip mouldings and covered by a truncated hipped roof laid with Flemish bond bricks; very broad cornice consisting of a frieze, a profiled gutter cornice, pediments on the bevelled corners and a parapet along the top as well as a zinc roof cupola on the axis of the entrance. The roof cupola is provided with among other things a heavy garland, a circular window and ornamental pieces. Central and facing the intersection an entrance arrangement with hardstone stoep, rendered round arch, (renewed) panelled door with round arch fanlight. On the ground floor arched windows, on the upper storey fixed windows all with hardstone cills and rendered surrounds. On the bevelled corners balconies are placed on worked consoles; cast and wrought iron ornamental railings within heavy corner columns. The side gables are on the ground floor partly adapted in connection with the flat (not to be protected) extension on the rear side.

Villa of cultural-historical, architectural-historical and urban-planning significance by virtue of the important role of the Stheeman family in the economic development of Meppel, by virtue of the design and use of materials as well as by virtue of the very determining location with respect to the intersection Zuideinde-Stationsweg and by virtue of its location in a valued townscape.
