Inleiding
Dubbel woonhuis gebouwd in 1906 in een typerende Art Nouveau stijl. Beide woning zijn aan achterzijde deels gewijzigd maar blijven van bijzonder belang vanwege de zeer karakteristieke en gave hoofdvorm in de gesloten gevelwand van het Zuideinde.
Omschrijving
Symmetrisch opgezet dubbel woonhuis met hardstenen plint, bakstenen opbouw, blauw-geel gemetselde banden, twee licht uitkragende topgevels met een overstekende gootlijst en een tussenliggend dakschild voorzien van een uitkragende en op opengewerkte klossen rustende daklijst; een samengesteld schilddak/zadeldak belegd met geglazuurde tuile du nord-pannen; twee houten dakkapellen voorzien van Art Nouveau-snijwerk. Centraal ligt een iets terugspringend gevelveld waarin een breed portaal met daarboven een loggia. Portaal met op hardstenen aanzetstukken rustende boogvorm (rode verblendsteen met aan bovenzijde een blauw geglazuurde sierrand; met kraal); wangen bekleed met decoratieve Art Nouveau tegeltableaus (plantmotief). In het midden een rechtgesloten houten paneeldeur voorzien van snijwerk waarboven een natuurstenen latei en een negenruits bovenlicht (onderste roeden hoger dan bovenin); links en rechts een paneeldeur met snijwerk en smeedijzeren sierhek voor venster; achtruits bovenlicht (onderste roeden hoger). Overgang naar loggia met geel gemetselde profiellijst en een houten profiellijst; twee rondbogen met deelkolom (vergelijkbare detaillering als portaalboog); hardstenen hekwerk; dubbel openslaande terrasdeuren en dertienruits rondboogbovenlichten. De zolderlaag wordt aangezet door een hardstenen lijst en tussen de opengewerkte klossen Art Nouveau-tegeltableaus. De topgevel van nr 60 heeft nog twee rechtgesloten vensters met achtruits bovenlichten, hardstenen onderdorpels, neggeblokken, lateien en ontlastingsboog (rode verblendsteen) met in spaarveld een Art Nouveau motief. Verdieping vergelijkbaar maar met een hardstenen latei met spaarveld. De zolderverdieping is aangezet met een licht uitkragende hardstenen profiellijst; topgevels met drie door penanten gekoppelde vensters voorzien van oorspronkelijke roedeverdeling en hardstenen latei. Dwars door het midden loopt een doorgang met een in I-profielen gemetseld troggewelf; in het achterste gedeelte twee markant naar elkaar toelopende schoorsteenschachten.
INTERIEUR. Tochtportaal met granito-vloer; lambrisering van geglazuurde tegels en zijwanden en plafond voorzien van sierpleisterwerk (bloemmotief); oorspronkelijke tochtdeuren (alleen voor nr 62).
Waardering
Dubbel woonhuis van cultuurhistorisch, architectuurhistorisch en stedebouwkundig belang vanwege de typologie, de vormgeving en het materiaalgebruik alsmede vanwege de beeldbepalende ligging in de straatwand en vanwege de ligging in een waardevol stadsgezicht. Regionaal zeldzaam wat vormgeving en ontwerp betreft. Gaaf.

Symmetrically arranged double dwelling house with hard stone plinth, brick construction, blue-yellow bond bands, two slightly projecting gable ends with an overhanging gutter moulding and an intervening roof panel provided with an overhanging gutter moulding resting on open-worked corbels; a composite hipped/gabled roof covered with glazed tuile du nord tiles; two wooden roof dormers provided with Art Nouveau carving. Centrally situated a slightly recessed gable field in which a broad portal with a loggia above. Portal with arch form (red facing brick with a blue glazed ornamental border at the top; with bead) resting on hard stone setting pieces; sides clad with decorative Art Nouveau tile tableaus (plant motif). In the centre a closed rectangular wooden panel door provided with carving above which a natural stone lintel and a nine-pane fanlight (lower glazing bars higher than at top); left and right a panel door with carving and wrought-iron ornamental screen for window; eight-pane fanlight (lower glazing bars higher). Transition to loggia with yellow bond profiled moulding and a wooden profiled moulding; two semicircular arches with half-column (comparable detailing to portal arch); hard stone railings; double opening terrace doors and thirteen-pane semicircular arch fanlights. The attic storey is marked by a hard stone moulding and between the open-worked corbels Art Nouveau tile tableaus. The gable end of no. 60 has two more closed rectangular windows with eight-pane fanlights, hard stone window sills, nine-block projections, lintels and relieving arch (red facing brick) with an Art Nouveau motif in the spandrel. First floor comparable but with a hard stone lintel with spandrel. The attic storey is marked with a slightly projecting hard stone profiled moulding; gable ends with three windows coupled by pilasters provided with original glazing bars and hard stone lintel. Running transversely through the middle a passageway with a trough vault built in I-profile brickwork; in the rear section two markedly converging chimney stacks.
INTERIOR. Draught lobby with granito floor; wainscoting of glazed tiles and side walls and ceiling provided with ornamental plasterwork (flower motif); original draught doors (only for no. 62).
Valuation
Double dwelling house of cultural-historical, architectural-historical and urban-planning significance due to the typology, the design and the use of materials as well as due to its characterising position in the street frontage and due to its location in a valuable urban townscape. Regionally rare in terms of design and execution. Intact.
