Inleiding
Het kleine gebouw ten behoeve van OPSLAG en SCHAFTLOKAAL, plaatselijk bekend als gebouw 43, werd gebouwd tussen 1868 en 1870. De bijnaam "'t Zwaantje" stamt uit vroeger tijden, toen de zuidelijke topgevel werd bekroond door een houten zwaantje. Het pand is gesitueerd op het noordwestelijke compartiment van het complex Rijkswerf Willemsoord, naast het oude dok.
Omschrijving
Op rechthoekig grondplan gebouwd houten pand, bestaande uit één bouwlaag onder een zadeldak. De noklijn loopt evenwijdig aan de Weststraat.
De draagconstructie van het gebouwtje bestaat uit gietijzeren colonetten die een ijzeren kapconstructie dragen, bestaande uit vier achter elkaar geplaatste Polonceau-achtige spanten. De colonetten hebben een gecanneleerde schacht en een zeer sober kapiteel. De gevels bestaan uit houten stijlen, waartegen aan de buitenzijde horizontale delen zijn bevestigd. De kopgevels hebben houten windveren. De zuidelijke kopgevel werd in oorsprong bekroond door een houten zwaantje.
De zuidelijke kopgevel is vijf vensterassen breed, waarvan er drie een houten zesruits venster bevatten en twee een houten deur met tweeruits bovenlicht. De deur geheel links is opgeklampt, de deur in de tweede as van rechts is een paneeldeur. Alle vensters hebben houten lekdorpels.
De westelijke zijgevel heeft drie vensterassen met elk een houten vierruits venster.
De noordelijke kopgevel heeft twee vensterassen, met elk een houten vierruits venster.
De oostelijke zijgevel heeft één houten vierruits venster en een dubbele opgeklampte deur.
Waardering
Het pand is van belang als historisch functioneel onderdeel van het complex Rijkswerf Willemsoord. Daarnaast is het pand van belang uit architectuurhistorisch en constructief oogpunt als gaaf bewaard gebleven voorbeeld van een in de tweede helft van de 19de eeuw gebouwd schaftlokaal met opslagruimte met een gietijzeren draagconstructie. Het pand heeft ensemblewaarde met het oude dok, door de situering bij en de functionele relatie met het oude dok.

The small building for STORAGE and CANTEEN, locally known as building 43, was built between 1868 and 1870. The nickname "'t Zwaantje" dates from earlier times, when the southern gable was crowned by a wooden swan. Description
Wooden building constructed on a rectangular ground plan, consisting of one storey under a gabled roof. The ridge line runs parallel to Weststraat.
The load-bearing structure of the small building consists of cast-iron columns carrying an iron roof truss structure, consisting of four Polonceau-type trusses placed one behind the other. The columns have a fluted shaft and a very austere capital. The façades consist of wooden posts, against the outside of which horizontal members are attached. The gable façades have wooden wind bracing. The southern gable was originally crowned by a wooden swan.
The southern gable is five window bays wide, of which three contain a wooden six-pane window and two contain a wooden door with two-pane fanlight. The door on the far left is boarded up, the door in the second bay from the right is a panelled door. All windows have wooden drip mouldings.
