Onderdeel 67:
Inleiding

Description
Component 67:
Introduction
FARMSTEAD COMPLEX, Erve Voortman, from 1859 which belongs to the estate Twickel.
The complex consists of a small FARMHOUSE OF THE HALL-HOUSE TYPE and a detached BARN with an attached bakehouse. The remaining partly substantially altered and partly new barns and outbuildings on the farmyard are of subordinate importance for the purposes of protection, but are nonetheless determining for the enclosure of the farmyard. A large part of the tenant farms on the estate Twickel are of this standard type which is based on the traditional Twente hall-house, but which differs from it by the application of half-hipped ends instead of wooden gable tops. This is the result of the instruction which Unico Willem van Wassenaer, the then lord of Twickel, established in 1760 with regard to farmbuilding on the estate. According to this instruction, the farmhouses and barns were henceforth to be provided with half-hipped ends instead of wooden gable tops when rebuilt or newly constructed. Because Weldam (Goor) belonged to Twickel from 1751 to 1877, the same instruction applied during that period to farmbuilding on that estate.
The farmhouse stands parallel to the Noordmolen with its front facade facing east. The barn stands to the west of the farmhouse at the entrance to the farmyard from the public road. On the east and south sides of the farmhouse an ornamental garden enclosed by a low hedge with several fruit trees. In front of the back facade (west) of the farmhouse stands a solitary chestnut tree in the middle of the farmyard.
The barn screens the farmyard from the meadow lying to the northwest. The enclosure of the farmyard is reinforced by the series of barns and other outbuildings which bound the farmyard on the north side.
Description
The FARMHOUSE OF THE HALL-HOUSE TYPE is constructed above a plinth of Bentheimer stone in brown brick. The half-hipped gabled roof covered with red Dutch tiles is provided with simple wind braces. The roof plane is extended on the north facade above the slightly projecting residential part. Brick chimneys built into the ridge and in the southern roof plane. The entrance in the front facade (east) is formed by a clamped door under a twelve-light fanlight. The forty-, thirty- and nine-light sash windows on the ground floor are hung with shutters in the Twickel colours black and white. The semicircular attic window under the half-hipped end has radial glazing bars. The windows in the side facades (north and south) of the residential part are partly provided with glazing bars and Twickel shutters. In the north and south facades of the business part clamped stable doors and arched stable windows with glazing bars. The round arch above the barn doors with a spike in the back facade (west) has a white key-stone. On either side of the barn gateways are cast-iron stable windows under round arches and stable doors under segmental arches. In the interior a particularly well-preserved tile room has been retained. The walls are tiled between the original cupboards and panelled doors with "flower-pot tiles". The woodwork is stained in the original colours ochre yellow and dark brown. The fireplace arrangement against the west wall has a marbled chimney mantel.
Valuation
Farmhouse of the hall-house type of cultural, architectural-historical and urban planning importance because of:
- the historical-functional relationship with the estate Twickel
- the typography and design characteristic of Twickel
- the ensemble value as part of the complex
- the integrity of the exterior
- the exceptionally well-preserved tile room in the interior
