Inleiding
In een traditionele bouwstijl met Neo-Romaanse elementen in 1931 naar een ontwerp van architect Alfons Boosten uit Maastricht in opdracht van de Sint Josef parochie gebouwde KATHOLIEKE KERK.
De kerk is halfvrijstaand gesitueerd op de hoek van de Koningswinkelstraat en Broekhem.
Omschrijving:
Het kerkgebouw heeft een in de lengterichting geplaatste kruisvormige plattegrond en wordt afgedekt met zadeldaken met leien. De toren heeft een naaldspits gedekt met leien.
Kerkgebouw opgetrokken in een sobere bouwstijl. Het gebouw bestaat uit twee haaks op elkaar staande vleugels met een in de oksel geplaatste toren. Rondboogvormige glas-in-lood vensters en houten deuren. Kleine rechthoekige glas-in-lood venstertjes. Het koorgedeelte is afgerond en heeft rondom een lage uitbouw met plat dak. Diverse steunbeerachtige geveldelen. De massieve toren heeft een ingesnoerd dak.
De entree bevindt zich in een portaal met zadeldak gedekt met leien. In de linkerkruisarm een rondboogvormige houten deur. Hierboven drie hoge glas-in-lood vensters.
Van het INTERIEUR is onder meer van belang: glas-in-lood vensters van Henri Jonas, Charles Eyck en Henri Schoonbrood; plafondschilderingen van Eugène Laudy (zijn eerste schilderingen) ; houten beelden van Jean Weerts en Charles Vos.
Authentieke tegelvloeren, banken en biechtstoelen.
