Inleiding:
In Chaletstijl in 1903 in opdracht van de heer Steege gebouwde VILLA genaamd "Sole Mio". De villa is gesitueerd in een parkachtige tuin. De bijgebouwde garage is uitgesloten van bescherming.
Omschrijving:
De villa heeft een in dwarsrichting geplaatste rechthoekige plattegrond, telt twee bouwlagen en wordt afgedekt met schilddaken en wolfsdaken. Het toegepaste bouwmateriaal is mergel. Rechthoekige houten vensters en deuren met rondboogvormige bovenlichten met roedeverdeling.
Vooruitspringend linkerdeel van de frontgevel met in de tweede bouwlaag een houten balkon op houten consoles. Dit geveldeel uitlopend in een topgevel met hierin vakwerk, enkele kleine venstertjes en de naam "Villa Sole Mio". Houten consoles onder de dakrand. Segmentboogvormige ornamenten in mergel boven vensters en deuren.
Uitbouw aan de rechterzijgevel eveneens uitlopend in een topgevel met hierin vakwerk en enkele kleine houten consoles.
In de oksel van deze uitbouw en hoofdmassa een houten hoekerker met hierop een balkon met houten balustrade. Aan het rechterdeel van de achtergevel een grote houten veranda met vensters en deuren met kleine roedeverdeling. Interieurindeling intact, overigens niet beschermenswaardig.
Smeedijzeren hekwerk op een laag natuurstenen muurtje en met in de toegangspoort de naam "Sole Mio".
Waardering:
De Villa Sole Mio is van cultuurhistorische waarde als bijzondere uitdrukking van een typologische ontwikkeling. De villa bezit architectuurhistorische waarden vanwege het belang voor de regionale geschiedenis van de architectuur, wegens de hoogwaardige esthetische kwaliteiten van het ontwerp, de toepassing van mergel als bouwmateriaal en de ornamentiek. Ensemblewaarde ontleent de villa aan de situering aan Broekhem. Aan deze straat bevindt zich veelal villabebouwing uit de periode 1850-1940. Daarmee is de bebouwing aan Broekhem van bijzondere betekenis voor het aanzien van dit deel van Valkenburg aan de Geul. De villa Sole Mio is tenslotte van algemeen belang op grond van de architectonische gaafheid van het exterieur en de typologische zeldzaamheid.
