Inleiding:
In een Eclectische stijl omstreeks 1885 in opdracht van Baron De Heus gebouwde VILLA genaamd "Villa Flora".
De villa is vrijstaand gesitueerd aan Broekhem. De aanbouwen aan de achtergevel zijn uitgesloten van bescherming.
De bebouwing aan Broekhem is een voorbeeld van een lineaire ontwikkeling uit de periode 1850-1940 en bestaat in hoofdzaak uit villa's en herenhuizen.
Omschrijving:
De villa heeft een L-vormige plattegrond, telt twee bouwlagen en wordt afgedekt met schilddaken met kruispannen. De hoektoren in het rechterdeel van de frontgevel heeft een tentdak afgedekt met leien. Drie dakkapellen. Het toegepaste bouwmateriaal is baksteen. Rechthoekige houten vensters en deuren met segmentboogvormige bovenlichten.
Asymmetrische indeling frontgevel. Linkerdeel frontgevel vooruitspringend. In het rechterdeel van dit geveldeel een afgeschuinde hoek met hierin de entree in een klein portaal. Dit geveldeel afgedekt met een torentje met hierin een oeil de boeuf en bekroond met een smeedijzeren nokpion. Gecementeerde deur- en vensteromlijstingen met aanzet- en sluitstenen. Aan de bovenzijde vensters decoratief metselwerk. Gevels met decoratieve horizontale banden pleisterwerk. In de oksel van vooruitspringend en terugliggend geveldeel een houten veranda op een hardstenen plint en met een plat dak. In de kroonlijst van de veranda de naamaanduiding.
Aan de achtergevel diverse aanbouwen.
Indeling interieur redelijk intact, overigens niet beschermenswaardig.
Aan de straatzijde smeedijzeren hekwerk met twee kolommen in natuursteen.
Waardering:
De Villa Flora is van cultuurhistorische waarde als bijzondere uitdrukking van een typologische ontwikkeling. De villa bezit architectuurhistorische waarden vanwege het belang voor de regionale geschiedenis van de architectuur, wegens de esthetische kwaliteiten van het ontwerp en de ornamentiek. De architectuurhistorische waarden manifesteren zich met name in de frontgevel. Ensemblewaarde ontleent de Villa Flora aan de situering aan Broekhem. Aan deze straat bevindt zich veelal villabebouwing uit de periode 1850-1940. Daarmee is de bebouwing aan Broekhem van bijzondere betekenis voor het aanzien van dit deel van Valkenburg aan de Geul.
