Inleiding:
Met elementen van het Eclecticisme in 1902 in opdracht van de heer Reijntjes gebouwde VILLA genaamd DIANA. De villa is gesitueerd aan Broekhem, een straat met veelal villabebouwing uit de periode 1850-1940.
De aanbouwen aan de achtergevel zijn uitgesloten van bescherming.
Omschrijving:
De villa Diana heeft een in dwarsrichting geplaatste L-vormige plattegrond, telt twee bouwlagen en wordt afgedekt met een zadeldak met kruispannen.
Vrijstaande markante villa. Het toegepaste bouwmateriaal is mergel.
Houten T-vensters en decoratieve houten deur met afgekante bovenhoeken.
Rechterdeel frontgevel : breed dakoverstek. Mergel decoraties in balustradevorm onder de vensters. Boven de deur Art Nouveau glas-in-lood vensters. In de 2e bouwlaag boven de deur een rond glas-in-lood venster. Linkerdeel frontgevel vooruitspringend en uitlopend in een afgestompte topgevel met hierin o.a. boogfriezen en twee blinde rondboogvormige vensters. Topgevel bekroond d.m.v. een smeedijzeren ornament.
Souterrainverdieping.
Aan de achtergevel een aanbouw in twee bouwlagen met plat dak en een houten serre met lessenaarsdak.
Interieurindeling redelijk intact, overigens niet beschermenswaardig.
Waardering:
De villa DIANA bezit architectuurhistorische waarden wegens het belang voor de bovenregionale geschiedenis van de architectuur; de esthetische kwaliteiten van het ontwerp en het gebruik van mergel als bouwmateriaal. De esthetische kwaliteiten manifesteren zich met name in de frontgevel.
Ensemblewaarde ontleent de villa DIANA aan de situering aan Broekhem.
Aan deze straat bevindt zich veelal villabebouwing uit de periode 1850-1940. Daarmee is de bebouwing aan Broekhem van betekenis voor het aanzien van dit deel van de kern Valkenburg aan de Geul.
