Inleiding
In een traditionele bouwstijl met expressionistische invloeden in 1937 naar een ontwerp van architect J.H. van den Bongard uit Heerlen gebouwde VILLA genaamd "Beukenhof".
De bijbouw van een garage is uitgesloten van bescherming.
Omschrijving:
De vrijstaande villa heeft een in de lengterichting geplaatste rechthoekige plattegrond, telt twee bouwlagen en wordt afgedekt met een parabolisch boogdak gedekt met riet. Het toegepaste bouwmateriaal is baksteen, in de tweede bouwlaag wit gepleisterd. Houten rechthoekige glas-in-lood vensters. Houten deur geflankeerd door glas-in-lood vensters. Westzijde art deco glas-in-lood vensters.
Asymmetrische gevelindeling. Dominant middendeel met halfronde erker met hierop een balkon met hardstenen balustrade. Middendeel loopt uit in een boogvormige topgevel met hierin een klein venster. Aan de rechterzijde van de erker een zeer brede luifel, doorlopend naar rechterzijgevel en rustend op hardstenen kolommen. Ingangspartij in linkerdeel frontgevel met daarboven loggia met balustrade met houten beschot en houten kolom.
In de linkerzijgevel een dominante bakstenen schoorsteen. In de rechterzijgevel een dakkapel met rieten dak. Rechterzijgeveldeel eveneens uitlopend in een boogvormige topgevel. Aan de achtergevel een uitbouw in een bouwlaag met plat dak met hierop een balkon met bakstenen balustrade.
Indeling interieur is grotendeels intact. Van het INTERIEUR zijn onder meer van belang: deur naar centrale hal met glas-in-lood vensters; hal met parketvloer, eikenhouten lambrizering en authentieke trap met leuning met decoratief houtsnijwerk. Diverse deuren met hierin glas-in-lood panelen in art-deco stijl.
Waardering:
De villa Beukenhof is van cultuurhistorische waarde als bijzondere uitdrukking van een typologische ontwikkeling. De villa bezit architectuurhistorische waarde vanwege het belang voor de regionale geschiedenis van de architectuur, voor het oeuvre van architect J.H. van den Bongard, wegens de esthetische kwaliteiten van het ontwerp en het gebruik van riet als dakbedekking. Ensemblewaarde ontleent de villa Beukenhof aan de situering aan Broekhem, een straat met veelal villabebouwing uit de periode 1850- 1940, en daarmee van bijzondere betekenis voor het aanzien van dit deel van de plaats Valkenburg aan de Geul. De villa is tenslotte van algemeen belang wegens de architectonische gaafheid van het exterieur en de typologische zeldzaamheid.
