Inleiding
SLUIS 19 van de in 1826 aangelegde Zuid-Willemsvaart, met OPHAALBRUG, sluisdeuren en bedieningsinstallatie uit 1929. De sluis wordt aan beide zijden omgeven door een jaagpad.
Omschrijving
In baksteen opgetrokken sluiskolk in de Zuid-Willemsvaart, gemetseld in kruisverband. Hardstenen sluis- en kaderanden. Met hardsteen versterkte sluishoofden. IJzeren meerpalen. Dubbele houten sluisdeuren met bouwjaaraanduiding 1929. Aan de zuidzijde van de sluis bevindt zich een eenvoudige ijzeren ophaalbrug met een hameiregel van kruisvormig vakwerk. Een langsschoor. Licht geboogde balans met vakwerk en afgeronde ballastkist aan de oostzijde. Twee hangstangen dragen de met een houten rijdek beklede val. Aan weerszijden van de brug eenvoudige smeedijzeren balustraden. De bedieningsinstallaties van sluisdeuren en brug werden vervaardigd door de Fa. Wishaupt en de Fa. Emile Reyniers, beiden te Maastricht.

Sluis 19 en bijbehorende ophaalbrug zijn van cultuurhistorische waarde als bijzondere uitdrukking van een sociaal-economische, geografische, technische en typologische ontwikkeling. De sluis had ten tijde van de bouw in regionaal opzicht een belangrijke innovatieve waarde.
De architectuurhistorische waarden worden bepaald door de esthetische kwaliteiten en het materiaalgebruik.
De ensemblewaarden van sluis en brug zijn zeer groot omdat zij een onderdeel vormen van de Zuid-Willemsvaart en een belangrijk stedelijk ensemble zijn; sluis en brug zijn door de situering verbonden zijn met de ontwikkeling van de stad, zijn van betekenis voor het aanzien van de stad en hebben een historisch-ruimtelijke relatie met de Zuid-Willemsvaart.
