Sluis in het Afvoerkanaal tussen Zuid-Willemsvaart en Maas, 1930.
Gesitueerd in het Bosscherveld, gebouwd in opdracht van Rijkswaterstaat, naar een ontwerp van architect O. Reich.
Omschrijving
Sluis van gewapend beton, voorzien van een rechthoekige sluiskom. De stalen hefdeuren zijn opgehangen tussen twee betonnen torens met overbrugging, waarin zich de hefinstallatie bevindt.
Het betreft als zodanig de eerste Nederlandse sluis met moderne stalen hefdeuren.
Waardering
De sluis in het Afvoerkanaal is van cultuurhistorische waarde als bijzondere uitdrukking van een technologische en typologische ontwikkeling met een pionierskarakter. De architectuurhistorische waarden van de sluis worden bepaald door het bijzondere belang voor de geschiedenis van de bouwtechniek, door de betrokkenheid van architect Reich, de esthetische kwaliteiten van diens ontwerp en het innovatieve materiaalgebruik. De sluis is vanwege de situering verbonden met de ontwikkeling van de streek, is van belang voor het aanzien van Bosscherveld en heeft een historisch-ruimtelijke relatie met Zuid-Willemsvaart, Maas en Afvoerkanaal. De sluis is in hoge mate gaaf bewaard gebleven. Bovendien beschikt de sluis over een grote bouwtechnische zeldzaamheid, een en ander in relatie met de voor Nederland vroege toepassing van stalen hefdeuren.

Sluice of reinforced concrete, provided with a rectangular lock chamber. The steel lifting gates are suspended between two concrete towers with bridging, in which the lifting mechanism is located.
This concerns as such the first Dutch sluice with modern steel lifting gates.

The sluice in the Drainage Canal is of cultural-historical value as a particular expression of a technological and typological development with a pioneering character. The architectural-historical values of the sluice are determined by the particular importance for the history of building construction, by the involvement of architect Reich, the aesthetic qualities of his design and the innovative use of materials. The sluice is due to its situation connected with the development of the region, is of importance for the appearance of Bosscherveld and has a historical-spatial relationship with Zuid-Willemsvaart, Maas and Drainage Canal.
