Omschrijving
Voormalige Tabaksfabriek Philips, 1918-1933, bestaande uit een tabaksfabriek, een autogarage met wagenhuis en paardenstal met bovenwoning, een ketelhuis met fabrieksschoorsteen en een hoogspanningsgebouwtje. De tabaksfabriek is tussen 1918 en 1921 in twee stadia tot stand gekomen en heeft thans een carrévorm rond een gesloten binnenplaats.
De uitbreiding van de tabaksfabriek, het hoogspanningsgebouwtje, de autogarage met wagenhuis en paardenstal met bovenwoning als ook het ketelhuis met fabrieksschoorsteen dateren uit 1920-1921 en zijn in een door de Art Déco beïnvloede stijl ontworpen door architect J. London te Hilversum, in opdracht van de N.V. Tabaksindustrie v/h Gebrs. Philips te Maastricht. Het architectenbureau Posthumus Meyjes, Verhagen & Kok te Amsterdam was verantwoordelijk voor de fabrieksverbouwing in 1933.

De voormalige tabaksfabriek Philips is van cultuurhistorische waarde als bijzondere uitdrukking van een sociaal-economische en typologische ontwikkeling. De architectuurhistorische waarden van het geheel worden bepaald door de bouwstijl, de betrokkenheid van de architecten London, Posthumus Meyjes, Verhagen en Kok, door de hoogwaardige esthetische kwaliteiten van hun ontwerpen, het materiaalgebruik en de ornamentiek. Description
Former Philips Tobacco Factory, 1918-1933, consisting of a tobacco factory, an automobile garage with coach house and stable with dwelling above, a boiler house with factory chimney and a high-voltage building. The tobacco factory was built in two stages between 1918 and 1921 and now has a square form around a closed courtyard.
The expansion of the tobacco factory, the high-voltage building, the automobile garage with coach house and stable with dwelling above as well as the boiler house with factory chimney date from 1920-1921 and were designed in a style influenced by Art Deco by architect J. London of Hilversum, commissioned by N.V. Tabaksindustrie f/h Gebrs. Philips of Maastricht. The architectural practice Posthumus Meyjes, Verhagen & Kok of Amsterdam was responsible for the factory renovation in 1933.
