Inleiding
WOONHUIS van het type Kempisch verdiepinghuis, ten dele gelegen in een Belgische enclave, ten dele in Nederland. De grens loopt, volgens de traditie, midden door de voordeur, waardoor de linkerkant tot Baarle-Hertog en de rechterkant tot Baarle-Nassau behoort. De bescherming zal zich beperken tot het rechter gedeelte van het woonhuis. Het huis dateert uit het tweede kwart van de 17de eeuw en verving een pand dat volgens bron nen in 1558 vermeld wordt als herberg "De Zwaan". Deze functie behoudt het huis tot in het tweede decennium van de 20ste eeuw. Nu behoort het woonhuis tot een boerenbedrijf. Rechts heeft het een lage aanbouw. In 1990 is het dak in stijl vernieuwd. Het originele eiken gebint is goed bewaard gebleven. De achtergevel is ca. 1960 geheel vernieuwd.
Loveren was in het verleden een belangrijk verkeersknooppunt en bewaart nu nog de vorm van een driehoekig gebied met drinkplaats en bomen. Er omheen waren verscheide ne herbergen gelegen, waarvan "De Zwaan" een bijzondere plaats innam wegens de prominente personen die er overnacht hebben.
Beschrijving
Het huis is opgetrokken met handvorm baksteen in kruisverband met klezoren. Het heeft de voor haar type kenmerkende twee woonlagen aan de voorkant en één woonlaag achter. Het zadeldak met rode muldenpannen tussen tuitgevels met vlechtingen heeft aan de achterkant een lage dakvoet, aan de voorkant een bakgoot. In de vijf raamassen brede voorgevel liggen links en rechts van de vernieuwde ingang hoge T-vensters met luiken. In de linker kozijnen zijn de sporen van een oudere roedeverdeling zichtbaar. De vensters met kleine roedeverdeling op de verdieping hebben de oorspronkelijke maat behouden. De drie gipsen cartouches tussen de beneden- en bovenverdieping vermeldden oorspronkelijk de naam van de herberg. De gepleisterde rechter zijmuur met lage aanbouw en klein T-venster wordt verlevendigd door een gepleisterde geleding. De linker zijmuur met eveneens klein T-venster vert oont in het metselwerk sporen van gedichte ramen. De voorgevel heeft tot de benedendorpels van de ramen een gepleisterde plint. Staafankers in alle muren, aan de voorkant met kleine decoratieve krul. Voor het huis loopt een smalle stoep.
Inwendig heeft het huis de indeling met middengang met links en rechts grote kamers behouden. Het eiken gebint op de verdieping bestaat uit vier tweebeukige jukken met kromstijlen aan de achterkant en schaarspanten met hanebalk. Tegelijk met de vernieuwing van de achtermuur heeft de oorspronkelijke indeling met opkamer, kelder en schouw plaatsgemaakt voor eigentijdse voorzieningen.
Waardering
Het huis heeft cultuurhistorische waarde als bijzondere herinnering aan een bedrijfsontwikkeling, gedurende eeuwen verbonden met de specifieke geschiedenis van de streek. Het pand bezit architectuurhistorische waarde als een van de oudste nog bestaande voorbeelden in Brabant van een, zowel in- als exterieur in hoofdlijnen gaaf bewaard historisch type dorpswoonhuis. Het huis heeft ensemblewaarde wegens de situering in de oude kern van Loveren waar het deel uitmaakt van een waardevolle bebouwingsgroep die bijdraagt tot de visuele gaafheid van de dorpse omgeving.

Introduction
DWELLING HOUSE of the Kempisch multi-storey house type, partly located in a Belgian enclave, partly in the Netherlands. The border runs, according to tradition, through the middle of the front door, with the left side belonging to Baarle-Hertog and the right side to Baarle-Nassau. The protection will be limited to the right part of the dwelling house. The house dates from the second quarter of the 17th century and replaced a property that according to sources is mentioned in 1558 as an inn "De Zwaan". The house retains this function until the second decade of the 20th century. The dwelling house now belongs to a farm. To the right it has a low extension. In 1990 the roof was renewed in period style. The original oak timber frame has been well preserved. The rear facade was completely renewed around 1960.
Loveren was in the past an important traffic junction and still retains the form of a triangular area with drinking place and trees. Various inns were located around it, of which "De Zwaan" held a special place because of the prominent persons who stayed there.
Description
The house is built of handmade brick in English bond with headers. It has the characteristic two residential storeys at the front and one residential storey at the rear for its type. The gabled roof with red pan tiles between spout gables with lattice work has a low eave line at the rear and a rainwater gutter at the front. In the front facade which is five window bays wide, high T-windows with shutters are located to the left and right of the renewed entrance. In the left window frames traces of an older glazing bar pattern are visible. The windows with fine glazing bars on the upper storey have retained their original dimensions. The three plasterwork cartouches between the lower and upper storeys originally mentioned the name of the inn. The plastered right side wall with low extension and small T-window is enlivened by a plastered articulation. The left side wall, also with a small T-window, shows traces of blocked windows in the masonry. The front facade has a plastered plinth up to the bottom sill of the windows. Rod anchors in all walls, at the front with small decorative curls. A narrow pavement runs in front of the house.
Internally, the house has retained its layout with central corridor with large rooms to the left and right. The oak timber frame on the upper storey consists of four two-aisle frames with curved posts at the rear and scissor braces with collar tie. At the same time as the renewal of the rear wall, the original layout with sleeping chamber, cellar and chimney has been replaced by modern facilities.
Valuation
The house has cultural-historical value as a particular reminder of business development linked for centuries to the specific history of the region. The property has architectural-historical value as one of the oldest surviving examples in Brabant of a historical type of village dwelling house, with both interior and exterior substantially well preserved in its main lines. The house has ensemble value because of its location in the old centre of Loveren where it forms part of a valuable building group that contributes to the visual integrity of the village setting.
