Inleiding
Op de hoek van Valeriusplein en Cornelis Krusemanstraat in 1925 in verstrakte Amsterdamse School-stijl met Wrightiaanse invloeden opgetrokken DUBBEL WOONHUIS naar een ontwerp van G.J. Rutgers uit 1923 in opdracht van J. Vegersteen jr. Aan Valeriusplein-zijde ommuring met in Amsterdamse School-stijl gedetailleerde poort.
Hoewel genummerd Valeriusplein 42-44 bevindt de ingang zich aan de Cornelis Krusemanstraat.
Omschrijving
Op een nagenoeg vierkante plattegrond opgetrokken gespiegelde bakstenen dubbele woning bestaande uit twee bouwlagen onder een plat dak met overstekend houten geprofileerde daklijst onder een gemetselde attiek.
Beide door afgeschuinde hoeken, waarin eenruitsvenster met zesruits bovenlichten, trechtervormige entrees bereikbaar via een uit twee treden bestaande hardstenen stoep. Rechthoekige houten deur met eenruits bovenlicht. Portieken bevatten aan weerskanten twee tuimelvensters. Smeedijzeren portiekhek bij nr.44. Boven de entrees op de verdieping een erker met vier gekoppelde negenruitsvensters onderverdeeld door houten roeden boven een brede onderdorpel. Beganegronds twee vensters met drie gekoppelde eenruitsramen met zesruits bovenlichten.
Op de verdieping van nr.44 een rij van door hout omlijste kruisvensters, welke doorloopt naar en wordt voortgezet in de zijgevel van het Valeriusplein, op de hoek onderbroken door twee eveneens door hout omlijste verticale achtruitsvensters boven een brede uitkragende onderdorpel.
In de zijgevel aan het Valeriusplein op de verdieping in een risalerend muurvlak een driehoekserker met verticale meerruitsramen boven een brede uitkragende onderdorpel. Boven de erker in de attiek twee gemetselde schoorstenen.
Beganegronds twee vensters waarvan een eenruitsvenster met zesruits bovenlicht en een venster bestaande uit drie gekoppelde eenruitsramen met eveneens zesruits bovenlichten.
Nr.42 heeft in de zijgevel in de hoektravee een erker beganegronds met bovenliggend balcon. In de erker, aan de zijde van de Cornelis Krusemanstraat, een eenruitsvenster.
De achterzijde is vier traveeën breed met op de verdieping vierruitsvensters waarvan de twee buitenste in drieën en de overige in tweeën zijn onderverdeeld.
Waardering
Dubbele woning van algemeen belang wegens achitectuurhistorische en cultuurhistorische waarde. Eveneens van belang vanwege de beeldbepalende ligging op de hoek van Valeriusplein en Cornelis Krusemanstraat en ensemblewaarde met de tegenover gelegen rectorswoning van het Amsterdamse Lyceum.

On an approximately square floor plan constructed mirrored brick double dwelling consisting of two storeys under a flat roof with overhanging wooden moulded eaves cornice under a brick attic.

Rectangular wooden door with single-light fanlight. Porches contain on both sides two tilt windows. Wrought-iron porch gate at no. 44. Above the entrances on the upper storey a bay window with four paired nine-light windows subdivided by wooden glazing bars above a broad projecting sill. Ground floor two windows with three paired single-light windows with six-light fanlights.
On the upper storey of no. 44 a row of wooden-framed cross windows, which continues to and is continued in the side elevation of the Valeriusplein, at the corner interrupted by two likewise wooden-framed vertical eight-light windows above a broad projecting sill.
