Inleiding PAVILJOEN, vrijstaand gesitueerd nabij de barokke vijver midden in het Noorderplantsoen, gebouwd in 1930 in opdracht van brouwerij d'Oranjeboom ter vervanging van een oudere kiosk naar ontwerp van de Groninger architect S.J. Bouma in een stijl met kenmerken van de Amsterdamse School en 'De Stijl'. Omschrijving Het gebouwtje is opgetrokken op een in hoofdvorm rechthoekige plattegrond, maar de korte zijde aan de vijverzijde is geheel halfrond gesloten. Daar bevindt zich onder een luifel de toegang. Rondom is het gebouw geheel geopend met een metrum van grote vensters, waarboven een stevige daklijst het vlakgedekte bouwvolume afsluit. De plint onder de reeks vensters is gemetseld van baksteen. Eigenlijk bestaat het gebouwtje uit een rond een kern gebouwde erker, die aan de zuidzijde verder doorloopt dan aan de noordzijde. De kern bestaat uit een aantal delen, die kubistisch vormgegeven zijn. Het schoorsteenblok wordt aan twee zijden geflankeerd door blokvormige elementen, die lager zijn en hoge vlaggemasten dragen. Voor deze compositie is een lint van bovenlichten over het midden van de rondgaande serre gebouwd. Het slechts met enkel vensterreeksjes geopende achtergedeelte bevat de keuken. De wanden zijn bepleisterd en gedecoreerd met een ingegroefd abstract, lineair patroon. Introduction PAVILION, freestanding situated near the baroque pond in the middle of the Noorderplantsoen, built in 1930 on commission of brewery d'Oranjeboom to replace an older kiosk designed by Groningen architect S.J.
