Introduction TOWNHOUSE, situated in the nearly closed eastern facade wall of the Stationsstraat, consisting of end nineteenth-century representative townhouses, built in 1884 after a design by the architect W. van der Heide from Leeuwarden in a richly decorated, eclectic architectural style with neo-classical stylistic characteristics. The building is currently in use as an office and residence. Description The monumental building is erected on a rectangular floor plan and consists of a basement with two storeys under a high, truncated hipped roof, covered with black Lucas Ijsbrandpan tiles. The front roof casing contains a heavy cabin, which is decorated with pilasters, rusticated blocks, a cornice and a tympanum interrupted by an ornamental vase. In the cabin there is a round window. The facade is closed off by a cornice of rusticated fields between consoles under a profiled gutter. The front facade is three bays wide and erected from reddish-brown brickwork, enlivened with stucco speckled joints and vertically articulated by a sequence of half-columns flanking the middle bay; on the first storey these are Tuscan and on the second storey Ionic in design. The basement is provided with a hard stone plinth. The horizontal windows of the basement are covered by shallow segmental arches. On the left, in the entrance section recessed into a portico, a hard stone staircase of five steps has been installed. Internally the portico is stuccoed. The opening, like the windows, is rounded at the top; the corner blocks align with the facade bands. The ground floor is closed off by a cornice with a frieze of triglyphs and metopes with rose-shaped ornaments. Internally of importance are the hall with white marble floor and richly ornamented stucco ceiling with grape clusters, the corridor with worked wooden staircase, ornamented stucco ceiling in the front room on the first storey and two cast-iron rose windows in the northern side facade.
