Inleiding HERENHUIS, deel uitmakend van de eind negentiende-eeuwse, nagenoeg gesloten westelijke gevelwand van de Stationsstraat, bestaande uit representatieve herenhuizen, van de aangrenzende panden gescheiden door smalle gangen, gebouwd in 1882 als hotel naar ontwerp van de uit Leeuwarden afkomstige architect W. van der Heide in een rijk versierde, eclectische bouwstijl. De langgerekte aanbouw aan de achterzijde is van ondergeschikt belang. Het gebouw is thans in gebruik als kantoor en wooneenheden. Omschrijving Het hoge, monumentale gebouw is opgetrokken op een rechthoekige plattegrond en telt drie bouwlagen en een zolderverdieping onder een plat dak met een voordakschild, gedekt met leien met in het midden een forse kajuit. De gevel wordt afgesloten door een vlakke gevellijst met consoles onder de door de kajuit onderbroken geprofileerde bakgoot. De vijf traveeën brede bakstenen lijstgevel is opgetrokken uit roodbruine baksteen en verlevendigd met dorpelbanden van kunststeen. De begane grond is geheel gepleisterd in een bloksuggestie van bosseringen en diamantkoppen. In de middelste travee is de tot een portiek verdiepte ingangspartij aangebracht. Deze portiek heeft een hardstenen stoep van drie treden, een bekleding van pleister en een tongewelf met rozetten. Een brede gestucte lijst loopt zowel bij de eerste als tweede verdieping als borstwering over de volle breedte van de gevel. Deze wordt op beide verdiepingen in het midden onderbroken door een balkon dat op bewerkte consoles rust en voorzien is van een balustrade. Op de verdiepingen hebben de hoeken aan weerszijden van de middentravee gecanneleerde pilasters. De kajuit waarin twee vensters zijn geplaatst, wordt bekroond door een tympaan en heeft aan weerszijden wangen van kunststeen. Alle vensters zijn rechtgesloten en hebben licht gebogen strekken met negblokken en sluitstenen van kunststeen. Introduction TOWNHOUSE, forming part of the late nineteenth-century, nearly closed western facade wall of the Stationsstraat, consisting of representative townhouses, separated from adjacent buildings by narrow passages, built in 1882 as a hotel designed by W. van der Heide, an architect from Leeuwarden, in a richly decorated, eclectic architectural style. The elongated extension at the rear is of secondary importance. The building is currently in use as an office and residential units. Description The tall, monumental building is erected on a rectangular plan and comprises three storeys and an attic storey under a flat roof with a roof deck shield, covered with slate and featuring in the centre a substantial roof cabin. The facade is terminated by a flat facade list with consoles below the profiled rain gutter interrupted by the roof cabin. The five bays wide brick cornice-topped facade is erected in reddish-brown brick and enlivened with sill bands of artificial stone. The ground floor is entirely plastered in a block suggestion of rustication and diamond heads. In the central bay is the entrance section recessed into a portico. This portico has a hardstone step of three treads, a plaster cladding and a barrel vault with rosettes. A broad stuccoed list runs as a parapet across the full width of the facade at both the first and second storeys. This is interrupted in the centre on both storeys by a balcony resting on worked consoles and provided with a balustrade. On the storeys the corners on either side of the central bay have fluted pilasters.
