Introduction TOWNHOUSE, situated in the nearly closed, western facade wall of the Stationsstraat, consisting of late nineteenth-century representative townhouses, built in 1882 designed by W. van der Heide, an architect from Leeuwarden, in a richly decorated, eclectic architectural style. Description The broad, monumental building is erected on a plan which is essentially rectangular and comprises two storeys under a truncated hipped roof, covered with a black flat Friesland tile. The front facade is five bays wide and symmetrical in layout. The facade is terminated by a profiled rain gutter on paired, foliage-decorated consoles. The gutter is interrupted in the centre above the balcony with a gable top, in which an oval window is placed. Two modern roof windows are fitted in the roof deck shield. The greyish-brown brick facade is very decoratively enlivened. Against the ground floor low hardstone slabs are applied to form a plinth. The parapet under the windows is laid in masonry; at the location of the wall jambs plastered fields with facets are applied. The front facade is symmetrical in layout: two window bays on each side flank the entrance section in a portico in the centre.
