Inleiding
Het rond 1910 gebouwde WOONHUIS werd mogelijk door architect G. Wieringa ontworpen. Het woonhuis is een goed voorbeeld van Jugendstil-architectuur. De in 1924 uitgevoerde uitbreiding van de platte aanbouw is ontworpen door H. Benninck Jr.
Omschrijving.
Het evenwijdig aan de Van Heutszsingel in bepleisterde baksteen opgetrokken huis telt twee bouwlagen en heeft een expressief vormgegeven a-symmetrisch geplaatste hoektoren. Het woonhuis wordt gedekt door een aan een zijde doorgetrokken zadeldak belegd met Tuile du Nord pannen. De a-symmetrische voorgevel heeft een ronde erker, opgetrokken in metselwerk en afgedekt door een koepelvormig dak; de markante gevelbeeindiging is accolade-vormig en heeft in de top een smeedijzeren sierelement. De hoektoren heeft sierlijk afgeschuinde hoeken die samenvallen met de expressieve Jugendstil-motieven in grijs pleisterwerk. De uitkragende daklijst gaat over in het koperkleurige koepeldak. Voor het overige zijn diverse vensters aangebracht met in grijs pleisterwerk aangedikte lateien. Oostzijde met een eenvoudige platte aanbouw met borstwering. Westzijde met serre.
Waardering
Van Heutszsingel 37 is van cultuurhistorisch belang vanwege de vernieuwende en weinig voorkomende vormgeving. Dat bepaald mede het architectuurhistorisch belang. Het is stilistisch een zeldzaam exemplaar in een nog gave vorm. Stedebouwkundig heeft het pand een belangrijke beeldbepalende waarde, tevens is het een essentieel onderdeel van het aan te wijzen beschermd stadsgezicht.

The house, constructed in rendered brick parallel to the Van Heutszsingel, has two storeys and an expressively designed asymmetrically placed corner tower. The dwelling house is covered by a gabled roof on one side continued, tiled with Tuile du Nord tiles. The asymmetrical front facade has a round bay window, constructed in brickwork and topped by a cupola-shaped roof; the striking facade termination is accolade-shaped and has at the apex a wrought-iron ornamental element. The corner tower has gracefully bevelled corners that coincide with the expressive Jugendstil motifs in grey rendering. The projecting cornice transitions into the copper-coloured cupola roof. Otherwise various windows are provided with thickened lintels in grey rendering. East side with a simple flat annexe with parapet. West side with conservatory.
Valuation
Van Heutszsingel 37 is of cultural-historical importance because of its innovative and rarely occurring design. This partly determines the architectural-historical importance. It is stylistically a rare specimen in still intact form. In urban planning terms the property has an important image-defining value, and is moreover an essential component of the protected townscape to be designated.
