Inleiding.
Herenhuis op de hoek Mauritskade-Nieuwe Schoolstraat in eclectische trant, gebouwd in het derde kwart van de negentiende eeuw. Het pand vormt onderdeel van de reeks aaneengesloten nagenoeg identieke huizen Mauritskade 43 tot en met 57, waarvan de buitenste panden aan beide zijden als risalieten zijn opgevat. Omschrijving.
Pand op rechthoekige plattegrond, bestaande uit een lage parterre, beletage, verdieping en lage kapverdieping in het met zink gedekte halve schilddak, drie vensterassen breed. Het grotendeels ongepleisterde pand heeft in de voorgevel een geblokte gepleisterde parterre op een hardstenen plint. De kapverdieping is aan voor- en zijgevel gepleisterd. De verdiepingen worden door geprofileerde waterlijsten gescheiden. De vensters in de voorgevel hebben flauw getoogde, geprofileerde houten omlijstingen; in de verdiepingen met decoratieve kuifstukken, met uitzondering van het middenvenster boven de ingang, dat een kroonlijst op consoles bezit. In de vensters T-vormige stolpramen. Boven de deur een balkon met balustrade, gedragen door zware, gedecoreerde voluutconsoles. Building on rectangular plan, consisting of a low ground floor, mezzanine, first floor and low attic storey in the zinc-covered half-hipped roof, three window bays wide. The largely unrendered building has in the front facade a blocked rendered ground floor on a freestone plinth. The attic storey is rendered on front and side facades. The storeys are separated by profiled drip mouldings. The windows in the front facade have slightly arched, profiled wooden surrounds; in the storeys with decorative ornamental stops, with the exception of the central window above the entrance, which has a cornice on consoles. Above the door a balcony with balustrade, carried by heavy, decorated volute consoles.
